Works like a charm w/ this ESC! It takes about 30 sec to set it up. Highly recomended.
   Charles0123 (43%)
Yes, it works quite well!!!!
   dju29 (100%)
yes you can use an Turnigy programming card on it or simply programming it with your remote controller (setting is very easy)

can i use ESC Towerpro H40A with it?
   Lanell (55%)
Remember it is only 1.5Amps, I have successfully run four servos(3xHXT900 1x INO-LAB HG-210HB tail) for months without a UBEC and seperate Lipo,WOT. But now I have a UBEC and a 850Mah 2S 18C Lipo for my Rx power & Turnigy 2200 3S 20C for ESC on my HK450. That gives me 11min. basic hovering and circuits

I would use a balloon if I was gonna use this in a boat.
   Darren (49%)
I dont think so. This is a very good speed controller by the way, a bit larger than most 40Amp controllers but still a good
   Flip__3D (63%)
No the price has gone down $2
   victorwx1 (56%)
no BEC but for safty its best to have a seperate power sys. to ur rx
   HellyFlyer (71%)
NO it's the same 9.99 from the time I have been noticing

can i use it in a rc boat?
   arfonzo (60%)
Of course. If it use burshless motor ....
   stretch81 (12%)
no,not reccomended, hobby king has some great boat esc though check em out
   Bruno (54%)
it's possible, it's one good esc, but you should protected to don't wet the unit, and pay attention to don't put one engine with the current above to 40A. good fun for you
   HellyFlyer (71%)
Depends on what motor and battery type are you using with it.
   Vova.St. (42%)
Of course, but protect from water.
   dju29 (100%)
i think you can but with 3S it heat alot so prehaps you need to add an vent system on your boat

da sheetiest craapiest ESC I have bought in my life ! Don't bother wasting your money here folks !
   arfonzo (60%)
I use two units and works fine.
   SCHRODERS (50%)
Alright let me ask you this...to get it to work...after powering on the Transmitter...you connect the battery to receiver...put the throttle up...hear the beep...bring the throttle down ?... Asking because this is the only thing that I haven't tried. My Throttle main and subtrims are both down. Did it work for you like any other speed controller ?
   stretch81 (12%)
Funny i have 4 with no problems on 450's used for over 350 cycles Never had a problem, then i expect a 15 dollar speed control to preform as a 15 dollar speed control.
   HellyFlyer (71%)
ok thanks for your advice
   Velibor (24%)
Could you be more specific? I own one so I would like to know which potential problems to expect...

I bought one of these for my fixed wing pz bf-109 and i was flying with a turningy 35-36b motor and it cooked the motor using stock 3 blade prop and 11.1v turningy 2200mah battery, so i thought i had a bad motor so i put another one in and same thing cookes another motor esc is not even warm, what could be the proplem?
   Lanell (55%)
I own two of these and am impressed with the one that works, it powers a HK 450 V1 w/ Typhoon motor, 3x Hxt900 & Ino-Labs HG-201HB Digital tail w/o Bec for months now. Brown out may have caused some crashes, I just realized its 1.5A(will add BEC). The other, card programs but wont initialize on heli, just beeps. I have read the discussion and reviews and it appears that while if you get a good one Great! but some are Faulty at this price. Open and check for visible problem, 4me cost to much to send back. hope this helps

Kurtis My buddy has the same plane and if you are running this esc just get this motor to go with it (TowerPro Brushless Outrunner 3015-7 1000kv / 470W) With that setup He runs a 9x7.5 3 bladed prop and the thing is a rocket, Pulls like a tractor and has 10 min flight times if your not full bore all the time. Its well worth it those parkzone motors are garbage.

I was making adjustments with this ESC, with the three motor wires from my Helicopter Belt Cp off, after making all adjustments servants and links, reconnect the motor wires again, I realized that there was no longer the whistle of the esc connect the battery. But all commands obeyed, but the engine did not work anymore. I reversed the procedures manual, but without any success. What should it have happened to the esc? Does it only burned the motor drive? I appreciate the help from you all.

   Yesyns (27%)
Make sure your ESC is connected to CH3 on your Rx and the white wire is on correct position. Other than that pls refer to other expirence pilot.....
   Andre Luiz (54%)
I already checked, it's all right, esc stopped even starting engine after I have done the settings link and servants. Like I said, all channels work correctly except the third channel that drives the engine. I bought another esc equal and everything was resolved. The imprensao that giving. esc does not stick weapon because the throttle not being fully below. But it's all right with the stick. Is there a test to be done to see if the problem would defect esc or rescheduling of the same?
By connecting the battery to esc does not do more to arm those whistles.
   Sam (44%)
I think it will only arm if the throttle is all the way at the bottom when you start it up. This could be a problem...
   ay6810 (55%)
Reverse only two of the wires connecting the motor to esc and listen for the 'whistle' again.
   Yesyns (27%)
Reversing two wires required only if the main rotor blades rotate in wrong direction(normally it rotates in counter clock wise).
   Andre Luiz (54%)
Thank you for trying to help me. So I bought it, I actually had to reverse the two wires, as the country ran in reverse. But the problem is this is exactly what I said, I was adjusting the tracks of the country and the arms race and the servants of the dancer, because he had suffered a fall and broke only the pas feathering is also the axis of the handle pas. However after the crash, the engine was operating normally. So I decided to replace the blades and straighten the shaft the next day, getting hit with this because the twist was very little. Great stuff. I then decided to regulate the whole. At the end of the settings with the two wires of the ESC off, only to connect the 2 wires to the motor, ESC and reconnect the battery again it does not whistle, nor fired over the engine. I thought he had reset, so I took a printed manual and did the procedures for recognition of the engine without any success. The imprensso giving, is that the zero position of the accelerator is out of position, but is not it. So I bought another ESC and everything was resolved. However, I did not play the ESC in the Trash, as it is still very young, he flew with only 10 flights! Is there any way I can test the ESC away from the helicopter to make sure it is actually defective, and so can play it in the trash?

Many thanks to all who respond to this message.

Graciously

Andr Luiz
   roy (55%)
"servants of the dancer" Thats what usually causes the problem. Those darn servants. And drinking booze while typing.
   Pygar (34%)
A new ESC has to be calibrated. Full throttle - connect battery and bottom throttle after you hear tone(for most ESC). I test equipment with an old receiver and various motors. But if there is no sound you probably have a ****** ESC.

The ESC powers ok the rx and servos BUT it jitters and stutters my motors. I tried programming different timings..no luck. I checked for bad wires, tested them , everything is ok. Anybody else had this problem? I would appreciate any kind of help.Thx
   Yesyns (27%)
Programming I use default. I had my servo jittering before and found one of the four servos died but also could be the servo itself faulty(dying). My motor also stuttered after running it for 4min, wires...ESC hot. Found that the connector head(split banana plug) loosen(maybe expanded). After tightened all 3 motor connectors, the motor run normally and there no more hot wire(only small amount heat). Hope I can share my experiance... :)
   fusionbrad (37%)
try advancing the motor timing, its not synchronizing properly
   e2e4 (37%)
Tried everything.Thx for your replies.I replaced it, too much hassle...maybe it's a good product but it didn't work for me.I can't recommend it to anybody.

3 days setting up my TRex i.e combination Assan GY410, TowerPro H40A, batt 3s monitoring, Corona 35mhz 8ch(PPM), Zippy 2200mah 20c, Imax-9c Trx. I also use TURNIGY BESC Programming Card
to prog this ESC. When running, the ESC, wires got hot and seem power getting less and less. I inspect and found that the wire connector to the Motor is a little bit loose. If this happened during hover or flying, it might burn the ESC or the motor again. Just imagine over-load the motor torque, it may lead to overheat either the motor or the ESC itself. Then I tightened the connector and the heat cool down again. I suggest that no loosen connector is allowed... hope I can share this finding to everybody... pls correct me if I am wrong...

Hi, do i need to program anything when i get it? or do i just plug it in and fly on my plane?(I heard someone saying that if i wan to use it on a plane i need to program it. If i need to program how am i suppose to do it using my radio if i do not want to buy the card?

You can program all without the card.
Comes with an small manual, but sufficient, remember to configure the limits.

HOBBYMIKE (36%)
I have this ESC on my HK450 with a Spektrum DX6i TX. I notice if you accidentally turn off radio the Heli motor goes to full power. Is this normal ? Seems kind of unsafe if you have a signal loss from radio. Is there something I need to do to prevent this ? I had the throttle off and when the radio was turned off and signal was lost to receiver the motor took off. Shouldn't it shut down power to motor if signal is lost ? Looking for help. Thanks.
   HOBBYMIKE (36%)
Oops my mistake. Forgot to set failsafe to low throttle position upon binding receiver with my Spektrum radio. Problem is fixed. It is a great ESC and programs nicely with Turnigy Programming card.
   Zaloha (40%)
Its normal, dont do it:)
   Rick (39%)
This sounds like the reciever is going into "fail safe mode", what you need to do is have all the control sticks where you want them (if the signal is lost) and rebind, if you had the throttle at 0% when binding it should be at 0% when you turn off tae radio.
   Napstr (86%)
I would've thought this is more a reciever failsafe issue which needs to be set separately - this like 99% of ESC's have safeties on arming but once armed they are 'Live' so any changes in signal recieved will be transferred to the motor - the ESC wouldn't necessarily know the transmitter signal is lost. I would look into what 'failsafe' functionality the reciever has and what it is currently set to.
   ay6810 (55%)

I also have a dx6I and never had that problem. Try rebinding your rx to your transmitter. It's your rx that caused the problem not your esc.

I just got 4 of these. Seem like great units except for one thing. 1 of them run perfect for about 30 seconds then I turned it off, when turned back on it just does 3 beeps ("DLM") every 2 seconds non stop. Cannot enter programming mode either. If I run it using a reciever battery pack and no LiPo on ESC i get the low voltage warning, so something is still working. Does anybody know if this can be fixed? other ESCs are working fine
   miketommer (48%)
I had this problem with mine and I found out that one of the wires that connect to the brushless motor was not connected very well and the speed control would shut down. Hope this helps!

BE WARNED!!! The BEC in this ESC is not good enough to power a 450 heli and will most likely cause you to crash, but there is a simple solution. Fit a 4700uf capacitor on the BEC 5V supply at the receiver, like this one shown here:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=8287

You can use a servo extention lead and some heat shrink or tape, to make this yourself.

Otherwise, you can use an external BEC, but this requires more weight, and work to fit.
   Kostas (47%)
Just curious, what function does the capacitor perform? Which receiver do you use? Thanks..
   beenfly'n (57%)
It provides the peek current to the servos, while the BEC switches from using one linear regulator to using two regulators, and avoids a brown-out condition, to both the receiver and the gyro.

I'm using the HK-7X 2.4G radio (HK-8X receiver).
   Kostas (47%)
Thank you for your reply beenfly'n, makes sense. How do you like your HK-7X?
   domdom (53%)
please specify that fix! i think its the wrong link.. where can i get that capacitor?
   beenfly'n (57%)
*domdom, do a google search for "RC Voltage protector".

*Kostas, the HK-7X (which stores 7 models) is great value for money. I have 5 receivers now, which I use in planes and helicopters, and they all work great* and I'll be ordering two more, when they're back in stock. My only wish would be for a bigger LCD display* but I'm not complaining for the price. I'm hoping, one day, HK will bring out an upgraded version, that uses the same receiver. :-)
   domdom (53%)

Just connected to Trojan motor from Parkzone model and checked connections. Got hot quickly and all motor will do is twitch several times and then stop. All beeps say it is good with 3 cell Lipo but no ability to start motor. Tried all timmings with no change. Connected old 18Amp esc and motor runs fine. Possible faulty ESC and with freight it is too expensive to even concider returning. Any ideas?

Sorry for the newbie question but does this ESC come with a built in BEC or do I need to buy a separate BEC (and if so, which external BEC would you recommend)? I plan to put it in HK450. Can it handle 4 HXT900 servos and a gyro? I'm using a DX6i and AR6200.
   helimangler (81%)
Has a BEC, but only 1.5 amps. Best to buy a UBEC, as this one starts glitching a bit on 4 9g servos under load. I use it with the TURNIGY 3A UBEC w/ Noise Reduction. I don't think the noise reduction is necessary in 2.4ghz receivers and you can take off the ferrite ring easily. It is working well in my two 450 clones. Use the Turnigy programming card for easy set-up. Good luck!

I ran it with 3 HXT MG14s and a MKS DS480 tail servo with gy401B gyro. It would glitch and cut off. I put in a Turnigy 3/5max amp BEC from here and it ran fine. I had run with the HXT900s and could fly a few battery packs without much problem. Only when I pushed the bird hard did it cut out. So a BEC is safest. I now have three of these speed controllers in three birds and I'm not having any trouble with them with the BEC added. Still a good deal with the BEC for 40amp ESC in MHO.

How do you like the gy401b? is that the HK copy of Futaba
401? Also what radio are you using Iam still setting up my HK450 I want to use my Futaba 6ex 2.4 GHz(I cant afford a new radio yet)any info on settin it up would be VERY helpfull.
Thanks
   helimangler (81%)
Hi Tryin2fly, I am using the Spektrum DX6i. The 401 clone is from ExtremeDeals and it is the same as some the other clones. It holds well with a good servo. Holds pretty good with a ****py gyro too. LOL!! Use the Trex 450 Bible to get links and advice on how to set up your HK. I would suggest using setup videos from Finless Bob at Helifreak ****helifreak****/forumdisplay.php?f=60 I don't see why you can't use your Futaba. Please look into the CopterX 450AE version of the 450 if you want a quality machine for little money. I have the HK too but for 59.99 for all aluminum CNC helicopter kit. That is really good. Ehirobo sells it. Good Luck!!
   helimangler (81%)
I meant lesser servo. Hxt worked good. Finless bob's video classes to set up a heli are priceless. *******www "dot" helifreak "dot" com/showthread "dot" php?s=cf94d00b4c8ecb17a7a764d132da5158&t=11373 Just replace the "dot" with the "." and you should go right to the place.

HI,helimangler
Thanks for the info I posted before but have no idea where it went lol, Anyway the HK is up and running the esc is working great, not hot, no cut out,so far so good for $10.00
ESC you cant beat it!!!I seem to see the copter X name alot I will go and check it out Im still tryin to fine tune the HK (seems to be slow going for me?)the one thing Iam worried about is the tail servo is getting warm not hot but warm it is a hxt900 w/a mks 292 gyro any thoughts on that?(lookin for a cheap dig/servo) I have watched finless so many times I lost track!! great info on that site for all. Thanks again for the info If not for people like you and others on this site to help newbies like me there would be alot of unhappy WOULD BE R/C'ers its good for our Hobby !!!
   helimangler (81%)
Hi Tryin2fly,
Thank you and no problem. Hobby King now has the Hobby King 401B AVCS Digital Head Lock Gyro which is the exact one I was using from another place. It is a great gyro!! Set it up right and BANG! Tail is rock solid. I use the MKS DS480 for a tial servo that works well. It is digital. HXT900 is a great servo and warm is not bad for a tail servo. I have not had the 480 fail me yet. But I did burn one up during a short circuit crash. As well as all the other servo's and stuff. Smoke and fire and all!!! Should have grabbed the video cam and set some small toy people around it. LOL! You will love the CopterX if you ever get it. Maintenance is key to all these birds and watching bearings in the Blade holders on the rotor as well as all bearings is a must. You are probably aware of these things so I won't go into a lecture. LOL! HAPPY FLYING!!

If this thing is advertised as a heli ESC it needs to have a BEC that is capable of handling common heli servos like the hxt900 servo with draws roughly 500mah. 500mah times four servos means you need at least 2 amps minimum. If this is a 2A esc then it needs to be advertised as such. Even still, you're cutting it close with 4 servos/gyro required on a 450 sized heli. I ordered one based on the fact that I liked the heatsink and it said designed for heli's. I'll post my findings with 3 HXT 900's and an hs 81 on the tail when I get everything. Max what servos do you have on the HK450?
   Terry (52%)
Ok got it hooked up on my Trex 450 with 3 hitec hs-65's, futaba gy401 and Futaba 9650 tail servo (instead of my ohter heli seup with hxt's and 81. The 2A BEC ran everything fine (no brown outs) doing heavy collective pumps, flips and piros. I'm impressed, for only 10$ US its a great deal. Sends plenty of juice to 4400kv motor (11T pinion). Runs cool but it is winter so not hot days yet.

Anybody know how to set the throttle range on this thing? I have one that is on an HK450 and it works great. Stting up another HK450 and on this one, motor does not start until I move the stick to more than 1/2 way up!!!!Ths instructions say "imortant that you set the throttle range on new radio..." but then they sae "see page 4", when you go to what I think is "page 4" (because all I got with the ESC was one page double sided)It just goes on again about how to program the ESC BUT NO INSTRUCIONS ON HOW TO RESET THE THROTTLE RANGE. Anybody done this yet? How do you do it??Cheers,Max from Aurora
   Terry (52%)
When it says that you have to rest the throttle range, it means on your transmitter. For example. My futaba 9C has end points that default to 100/100 for each direction of travel for each channel. I leave it at that for all of my servos except channel 3 which is my throttle which is actually set at 140/76. Why is is set that way? Because you start your throttle end point at the bottom (zero in this case) with the stick all the way to the bottom. Make sure your esc is plugged in and then you gradually increase the bottom end point number until you hear the esc engage. Thats how you get the bottom number. Then I maxed out the top number to make sure I got all of the esc's power available. Your bottom number (end point) is probably set at 100 so your esc is not engaging until 1/2 stick. Try lowering your low number, or dropping your ATV down if you don't have a computer radio. Hope this helps!

You do this by setting the throttle to MAX wait for the melody and double beep. Then set the throttle to MIN. You are ready to roll now. Mine will not remember the range and have to set it each time I change the battery

The Manual which comes with the ESC is a partial copy of the one presented in: ***********fmadirect****/support_docs/item_1268.pdf -Except that this indeed have a "Page 4" which explains the procedure. Take a look at this manual because it is clearer and says the same as the included one. Basically the procedure is the one explained by snappy.

It say for heli right so why cant you use more than 2-3 hxt 900 servos? just bought this for a HK450 build Now What do I do?(I planed on using 4hxt900s all the way around) Sure hopes someone can help me!Thanks
   Terry (52%)
If you try it and the servos cut out, or the esc resets then you may need to get an external 3 amp BEC sold here on hobbycity for less than 10 dollars. I am in the same boat waiting on this ESC to come in and have 2 HXT900s and hs 81 that need to be powered by it. I'll post if it works or not.
   Terry (52%)
It works by the way. Still working on using "beeps" to get into soft start though.
   sorenlaf (58%)
This isn't speed controler related, but I think the HK450 will do better with a faster servo on the tail rotor. Much as I like the hxt900 as a general purpose servo, I think it's really too slow for the tail rotor, at least if you're using a heading hold gyro. With a rate command gyro, it's probably okay. Barely.

To address the bec problem, you can always add a ubec. They're $8, 8gms, deliver 3 amps, and insure you can at least maintain some control if your controler fails in flight. Also, ubec's usually use a switching circuit (SC bec's are typically linear), so they actually draw less current, generate less heat, AND the heat is not generated at you SC. I should add that you should only buy a switching ubec, just no point in paying the $ and weight penalty to get a linear circuit.

Hi
I have the same problem.
I bought tree, and only one accepted the programing. About the others two, one didn't work at all, and the other didn't accepted the programe (both, card or radio).
If one works properly and the other don't aceppt the program can be a problem of factory.
I am going to send back this controller and hopping an answer by hobbycity.

This ESC is dedicated to Heli but I can not set it up onto soft or supersoft start. I have tried many times but still can not carry out. It is not the case of programming- I have changed brake mode, timing, reset to factory settings vut soft starf is not available. does anybody faced with the similar issue? Has anyone got any idea how to solve it?
Thanks for your tips.

I have set mine up with a Turnigy programming card and it works fine. So I am not sure what your problem is. Did you use card? Did you use the beeps? I have used the beeps too but the card makes it almost fool-proof (which I seem to need a lot lately). :)
   Jacques (51%)
Hi,
I don't have a programing box, so I have to do with the "beeps". As it came with no instructions, I could not change anything, but it worked fine in the original configuration. After a few flights, something went wrong with the receiver and the ESC started to beep non stop as soon as it was plugged. I have found the manual on a different forum and everything is ok now.

It looks like I have expected too much from this ESC. It was set up properly from the beeps - I have checked it with the TURNIGY card. Both beeps and card programming give the same results.
The point is the super soft start is very close to normal - if normal starts instantly, super soft takes less then 1 sec longer. I have expected it would take at least 2 sec - as well known branded ones. for less then 10$ it is hard to expect so.

Got mine in a HK 450 and it works ok. It came without manual though and now it makes all kind of beeps and I don't know what to do.. : ( Has anyone the manual and could scan and send me? HK support can't help and pointed me here...
Thanks!
   helimangler (81%)
Jacques, try setting throttle to full then plugging in battery. After it beeps, set throttle to bottom. Unplug battery. Keeping throttle at lowest setting, Plug in Battery. If you keep getting beeps, try setting your throttle sub-trim down till it stops. Hope this helps.

would this be good enough amps for a scale 450 fusalaged heli?
   helimangler (81%)
Im using it in two 450 class Helicopters and they have been working fine and cool for a month. I use a 3800Kv Motor, DS480 tail servo, G401b tail servo, and three Hextronic MG-14 cyclic servos. Installed a 5 amp BEC for extra precaution so if the ESC does go out I can kind of control the heli for hard landing. Not problems yet though.

Hy *all:

Is 1,5A BEC enough for 2*18g Servos and 2*9g Servos and a 6Ch Reciever?

Thanks a lot,

Lukas

which servos? I only have HXT900 in 9g, and I would not connect more than 2 9g + Receiver in this BEC. at most 3 9g MAX!!!

Hi all, does this ESC handle 4S lipo?
   supergps (77%)
The one page manual that comes with this ESC says that none of the H series ESCs upto 40A handle more than 3s, including this one. Stick to 3s.

Yes the hobby wing program card works great with this, right down to picking a tune to play. The hobby wing program card looks just like the Turnigy program card so it should work too.
Looks like it has governor mode and I could turn it on and off, but I have no idea how to use Governor or what the advantage is.

Excellen ESC for the HK450.
Tighten/loosen the screws to have all fet's touch the heatsink. Bec has it's own heatsink. Gets barely warm in my 2 hk450's, where the Supersimple 25A got really hot. Soft-start is good.
I do use ubec in one hk450, none in the other. bec is solid.

!!!IMPORTANT!!!
Please look, if your FETS do have contact with the Metal. This wasn't the case with mine! So I had to tighten the screws more, so that the FETs got in contact with the cooler. This twisted a little bit the metal in the front, but that doesn't matter.
But all in all it's an astonishing good ESC. And especially for this price. Stays cool in my HK450 and the BEC has no probs also with the Servos. Also stays yool. Really just astonishng for this price!
