A beautiful, sleak, light weight yet strong ASW28. Moulded from EPO foam and reinforced with a carbon fibre spar, this 2mtr wingspan glider is agile and reslient enough to take the roughest of landings. Cleverly built, the ASW-28 includes such features as a snap lock canopy, unique servo horn system providing zero drag and a neater appearance plus a carefully designed foam manufacturing mould keeps the skin of the plane smooth and mostly free from ugly [spots] found on other models. This models simple and cleverly designed features combined with its A1 quality (evident from the EPO moulding through to the no expenses spared 3M high adhesion joiner tape) make this an excellent choice for fussy pilots or those appreciating quality in a bulletproof RTF package. Simply screw in the tail piece, connect your Rx, plug in the battery and you are ready!

great glider, since the wind is not too strong. Another problem is overcome by his box at 1.06 cm the limit for sending to some countries. video of the flight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RctmAfh_FkI&feature=channel)

For a beginner what is best the best glider, this one or the easyFly (http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7895&Product_Name=Easy_Fly_RTF_Glider_EPO)
In terms of durability and spare parts, what is the best?
Thanks

No manual came with kit.
The /-10 for aileron I found on the internet don't do anything.
Any values for rudder elevator aileron and cg are appreciated, Use a 2S1300.
Thanx

Could anyone give me better details about this ASW28 glider?
1. Can I buy this model without servos & motor?
2. Is there a place here in the USA I can get it under 2 weeks? I live in Florida.
3. What's the best combination transmitter/ receiver for this glider?
4. What's the best batteries for this glider?
5. What is the best overall setup for this glider?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it is sold "ARF", comes with servos, motor and ESC, which you can easily replace with your preference. There are some restrictions on the size of the box for shipping to some countries. It uses a radio with 4 or 5 channels, if you use the "flaperon" mode. The stock engine supports only 2s lipo batteries.

How about the performance of this plane in wind? It's really windy at my place.
Hoogie
(24%)
If the wind is more than 15km/h (about 3 bft) then this plane is almost unflyable. It reacts heavily to wind. making it a bit nose-heavy might help a bit, but if the wind is over 3 bft, i don't think it will fly nice.
Heaviest winds i've flown in with this is about 20 km/h and that was hard.

Looking for a replacement 10x6 folding prop with 3mm spinner that will work with this glider? I broke the spinner and am looking for a replacement that is in stock. Could not find anything similar on the hobbyking website besides the original one which never seems to be in stock. Can anyone provide a link. Thanks.

My elevator servo does not centre. It not like it is the elevator servo's fault, it like the push rod gets jammed. Has anyone else come across this and how did they fix it

Hi flyfly ! I have had the same problem during flying test and I discover the reason : I must fix properly all screws which fixed rods and attach with glue ! After this operation I dont faced the problem again :-)

Are you talking about the screw that attaches the pushrod to the servo horn, because I have already tightened that but still does not centre. Thanks anyway if that what you mean.
Ramir

Yes, I talked exactly about this. By first fly test due this problem I near to crash my ASW. But yes, you are right, in the pushrods guidance is certain clerance (in case of flection and production inaccurancy. My experience is, that if I want to fly with fine adjusted elevator, I every time go back a little with elevator stick. I dont know if I hepled you ?

The original "hinges" that are just foam moulded into shape are quite stiff. Many people cut them through and re-hinge with sticky tape or other type of hinge. Personally I just disconnected the control rods and gradually and repeatedly worked the control surfaces up to a deflection of about 60deg both ways. This made them flexible enough so they not longer bind or drain too much power from the servos.

anyone know what kind of connector the esc uses? If I buy this plane and batteries to go with it, will they be deans connectors or some off brand?
Thanks..

Hi Dan. Original connector is deans type. I have changed them for 2mm Gold Connectors. I use two cell batery and max current by full throttle is cca 10A and for this connector type it is OK

i have not programed the esc. The esc only engages with a 2s. You have to change the esc to another esc that can take 3s. Like most of them can eg turnigy 18a esc with do.

Well I ordered one on Dec 15th when I was notified that it was back in stock. It DOES NOT come with any batteries. It also comes in at about $145 after shipping to the US. Mine had a bad speed control and the motor would not arm. I had to returnit today. It arrived on Jan 11th. The return shipping cost $47.90. Now my $89 glider cost about $200. I am sorry but it's just a foamie glider!!!!

Thank you and sorry to hear about the speed control. I will still order one since it is my first glider, and will make sure to purchase the recommended Zippy 1300mAh 2S lipo. For me, the glider, with the zippy 1300mAh battery and a Corona 6ch syntehized receiver with shipping is right around $128.00. Still a great bargain if everything works well the first time.

They no longer ship with batteries, As for the ESC, I found it would not arm until I trimed down the throttle trim to -13 on Eclipse 7 then it armed no problem.

Can you open the canopy to put a camera inside there? I'd like to shoot aerial video with this plane but without causing drag.

You would have to cut into the canopy floor to do that but the room may not be sufficient also would make it nose heavy

Would require a battery relocation. Try the Easy Fly 1st, its cheaper and has a slightly thicker mid section to cut out an extended battery compartment.

Hi There I have a few questions wich i like to discuss with you.
1.) I am currently thinking about getting a nice plane but i don`t know if i should take the ASW28 -OR the AXN-FLOATER JET!
-wich du you suggest i should by ? I am looking for a plane wich flies good and make fun.
could you please give me some more informations about the fly caracteristics of each plane ?
thanks for your help! regards
Beaufighter
(-25%)
I have both, and the two planes are very different:
The floater jet is a is a powered plane that can glide. If you replace the included prop with a 6x4 it is quite fast and agile. With included prop it can be used as a trainer, and sounds like an angry bee:) Can be flown nice and slow.
The ASW is a powered glider, it handles like a glider and must be flown as a glider. The motor is just to gain altitude, not for use while flying. It is not a performance plane, it is very scalelike but feels somewhat heavy to me.
What makes a plane "fun" to fly is all up to you. Do you like gliders, take the ASW, do you like powered planes, take the floater jet. Hope this helps:)

Maiden flight yesterday. Flew OK for five minutes. Elevator control stopped working during decent for land and the plane nosed into the ground breaking off the front just behind the motor. Should be able to glue back together. Elevator control was working immediately after crash so I'm not sure if the radio link was lost or the just the elevator servo had a problem.

I have fased the same problem by flying and I discover the reason : you must fix with with glue all screws which fixed rods ! After this operation I dont faced the problem again :-)

I am unable to get the ESC to arm with a fully charged 3s lipo. What's odd is that the ESC will arm if the 3s lipo is partially discharged... indicating mine has a voltage limit somewhere below 12.60 volts. Is anyone else having this issue.

Tips for this glider include: My rudder servo ****ped out after 2 flights..it lost it's ability to center which made for a hairy landing but I got it down ok. A 9g size servo fits perfectly and the foam is CA safe so you can glue the new servo in easily. To stiffen up the boom/rear of the fuse I used a s**** 1mm (ish) carbon rod and wrapped it to the bottom of the fuse using a spiral wrap of adhesive white trim covering in both directions. The rod stiffens the rear of the fuse up a bunch as does the helix style taping. If your stab is off of parallel from the wing, you can hold it as you tape and it should end up close. I also used CA to glue the wings to the fuse in order to keep them from sliding around in the joiner...this seems to help the rigidity of the whole thing quite a bit but It will be hard to remove them if the wing servos ever go bad. I cut a pocket in the side of the fuse under the canopy to slide the ESC in and then the battery would fit in the bottom of the fuse without sitting on the ESC. A small rectangular air inlet and exit hole were also cut in the fuse underneath to get some air flowing through to cool things off. I used adhesive trim tape on the bottom of the fuse as a 'landing skid' which keeps the foam from getting torn up when landing in dirt or dried vegetation. The last thing I did was cut a hole in the bottom of the canopy so that I could actually slide the receiver into the canopy (like a small pilot) which keeps it away from the esc and battery and has solved my interference problems. I have the antenna exiting out the rear of the canopy through the clear bubble and then it is taped to the center of the stab so it dosen't drag on the ground during landing. The glider flies much better now but it won't do any serious aerobatics due to the flexing fuselage. I was able to hook up into a couple mild thermals with it and it does reasonably well (it is not exactly thermal season right now) Wind REALLY affects this thing and the instructions recommend a max wind speed of 6mph. You can fly it in a little stronger wind but you'll be fighting it a lot.

Here's a couple of pictures I took that show the receiver in the canopy, the organization of the electronics under the canopy, and the helix taping and carbon rod to stiffen the rear of the fuselage.

I don't know which one to chose, this one or the Easy Fly RTF Glider EPO . Any opinions about these two gliders?
Thanks.

I own the Easy Fly, and I would imagine both are great products. heres my view if your more of a beginner then go for the Easy Fly, its physically bogger and therefore tougher, fusalage on ASW looks very thin as does the depth on the front behind the motor. Easy Fly can take 3s lipo batteries as the motor is probably near 180W so if you have these then you can use.
On the other hand if you a competant pilot then this one will be fine, it is a lighter plane with a lower power 72 W motor so a 2s is all thats needed or the moret will burn out (remember A x V = W so a 7.4 v 2s will be fine to give al lthe current needed). so with the free battery this is a very good deal.
One other ting to note is I never trust the catch that holds on the canopy on any plane and always put a band over (I learnt the hard way) its easy to add a band over the easy fly as its a block of epo foam also, but the ASW looks like its a large diamiter and a clear cover, so perpahs someone can comment on its strength.
All I can say is I love my easy fly and its a tought old bird but Im sure you be happy with either choice, let us know how you get on.

As you can read in the review I placed today the ASW28 proves to be very crash-resistant. I do not trust canopy locks either so I did put a rubber band over it. The canopy, whilst also thin, is strong enough. I also own an Easyfly (and the much alike Multiplex Easyglider) and the ASW28 is clearly the most beautiful of all. I did my maiden flight today and it handled very well. So I would recommend the ASW28 over the Easyfly.

ASW28 EPO Electric RTF Plug-n-Play Glider is faster then Easy Fly RTF Glider EPO (wing profile is thinner). Landing speed is higher, too. Nose part of fuselage needs a few carbon rods inside for more strength.
Ramir
(69%)
To John : canopy of EPO ASW 28 have a good system for fixing. There are two type of key - first is on the front -only easy to plug canopy pin in the in the hole and second in the back side of canopy with with the plastic spring lock. To pup in and take out the canopy you need force but not to big. I find this system very clever.
Approx. how long does it take, to get to high altitude?
Any other comments on flight characteristics appreciated?
Thanks
Farmer Ted
(86%)
Won't climb vertical or more than about 30 degrees...in fact it is full throttle or nothing to get it to climb....if there's much wind you will be fighting it and it will be harder to climb.
The supplied 1300mah 2s battery will probably give you 10 or so minutes of full throttle. This is a guess as I only use the motor to climb to thermal altitude...I always land with battery to spare if the thermals are active.
Takes probably a a good 30 seconds to maybe a minute to get to a 3-500 foot altitude...much longer in the wind
because it is so flexy it can be a handful in the wind and it is also hard to control with the power on in anything other than a straight line. it's gliding behavior is decent and when gliding or thermalling in light wind it is pretty docile. Don't expect any aerobatic ability..I can't even get mine to loop even after a steep dive it just goes up and stalls. It is a fairly fast flier if you want it to be. Landings are smooth and predictable if somewhat fast. Hand launches are easy at full power.

It's a really flexible and strong version of standard foam. I have this plane, and it's great fun. Fly's very smoothly, required almost no trim and climbs like crazy with just a 2S.

If it melts with regular CA, it's not elapor. Maybe it's even better ?!?!? It seems that the finish is neat and seamless, with almost any moldings marks. That's definitly not the case with elapor that have a lot of rounds marks and dots that are remnants of their molding processes
Tarkan

I do not have ASW28, but I have "Floater Jet" it is also called as EPO. I am using medium CA, and it is possible to use hot glue gun without problem. I have 2 multiplex elapor, and parkzone zfoam. They seems equal, but my opinion, elapor (MUltiplex) seems better. Try Zacki sekundkleber (like medium CA, but not need activator). U can paint this kind of material with the help of zacki primer + acrrylic paint. U can repair some volume losts with zacki fillup and super fluid... Elapor, EPO, z-foam they are very stable, repairable with medium CA or zacki. Flexible foam like rubber but rigit as balsa (my opinion).
