I myself,as well, bought one of these engines.I have been in the fields 10 times trying to tune this "powerfull" thing.!!The only thing I managed is a sudden shut down during iddle. What is the point of having a-generally- nice engine and very bad to tune it !! Iwould not recommend it,unless you change carb,or something else. STAVROS
   Sumer (65%)
If there is a remote needle please transfer it to the carb.
   bampi2k2 (43%)
This engine is particularly notorious for shutting down on nitro fuel. I have 3 of these and they are BRILLIANT. My recommendation check the following. 1. Run-in of atleast 300ml of fuel with 0.8-1.0 turn fuel open. 2. ZERO percentage nitro-methane (engine kills in Idle otherwise) 3. 11x7 size prop best efficiency in that. 4. use a 80-20% of methnol and castor/synthetic oil. 5. Use an OS#8/A3/ASP GP1 plug... Trust me these engines are GREAT!!! :) good luck

Simon (72%)
Are these the 3rd generation ASP engines with remote carbi mounting?
   Eric1180 (-53%)
The other ASP engine has remote needle valve. I get my in a few days..
   bampi2k2 (43%)
There are separate listings for both of the variants. I think all the 3rd generation ones are with remote carb. Me being an old timer with ASP engines, i prefer the one WITHOUT a remote carb! *)
   Turbobeaver (97%)
Yes,the standard front mounted needle is so much easier to trouble shoot because you don't have to deal with the extra piece of fuel tubing that joins the rear needle and the carb up front.Rear needle valve engines commonly have vacuum leaks in this area.Front needle valve engines on the other hand don't have to worry about this issue.

ramzi (70%)
Ramzi,
I have bought an ASP S52A engine, and i would like to know whether it can pull a Thunder Tiger Cessna, it is 3.5 to 4kg flying weight, and if it can, what is the propeller size recommended, anyone can help please, and Thanks a lot
   sosimportacoes (77%)
you can use the 11/7 or 12/7
   ramzi (70%)
Thanks partner, I will use the prop size you recomended, but would it pull the plane? Thanks again you are agreathelp.
   Eric1180 (-53%)
Ya that sound fine
   Sumer (65%)
3.5 - 4 kg is a little bit too heavy for a 52 size motor. ASP 52 is designed especially for RPM and speed and not for torque.
Your Cessna can be flown with this engine but this would necessitate high piloting skills.
   Andre luiz (72%)
Yes, it can puch 4kg of weight. I think it is good to use a propeller than a 12x6 or 11x6. Here an example being an ASP 52A with 4kg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuiq-zE1BhE
   Andrei Vlad (58%)
I've got the best response from this engine using a 12x5 prop. With it the engine goes up to 12,7 kRPM and it pulls 1 ,25 kg Extra 300S vertically unlimited. I think it's a good combination for your Cessna, given that Cessna's aren't aerobatic planes.
   bampi2k2 (43%)
I fly a TT Ready40 on this with a 11x7 prop... a bit of an over kill of power with this engine, but it balances well and flying absolutely flawless. if you are flying the Cessna-177 Cardinal 60 Kit (ABS Blow Molded) then you should get the ASP S61!!

Why do not you sell candles for these engines
Why do not you sell candles for these engines, I need the plug glow OS 8
   Eric1180 (-53%)
That's what the hobby shops are for my friend. I doubt you buy your fuel online. Things like that (i am assuming you talking about glow plugs and ignitors) are better bought at LHS (local hobby shop). Also Why risk some thing so inexpensive with some off brand .. This is where Lipo's and glow differ. Lipo's will fail when you are charging or on the ground .. Glow will fail when you are pushing your engine it's very hardest.
   sosimportacoes (77%)
you can use the O.S A3 will stay better. here no has glowplug.

What kind of Glow Plug is reccomended on this engine? I've been using a O.S. Nr 8. Plug and i have found that the engine runs very un-even and halts after a while.
   Alvaro (58%)
I'm using an OS8, too. But mine works well. have you followed the manual thoroughly?. It explains quite well how to carburate it.
   vandoaugusto (72%)
This engine have a Glow Plug?
   topcom (75%)
No, engine comes without Glow Olug, you must buy it separately.
   nowinkk (82%)
Use ASP 2s and 4s glow plug. It works flawlessly and the price is cheaper than OS #8
   Alvaro (58%)
Nowinkk: did you buy this plugs here?
   panxgtsb (75%)
Use OS #8 (NITRO FUEL) or OS #7 (Fuel without nitrometane), i found in h i m o d e l . c o m or t o w e r h o b b i e s . c o m
i get 13100 rpm with 10% nitro 11x6 jxf OS #8 !! just awesome
   sosimportacoes (77%)
You can use OS. A3 our O.S.8 but stay better with OS.A3
   bampi2k2 (43%)

Now i am having trouble with the O.S. #8, three of them already burned, each one with less than two liters. with the Enya #3, its already been 5 liters and still runs perfect.. if i put two washers of copper, does it make any difference? I run then with 0% nitro 18% oil.
23/06/2009
C.Brum (70%)
Does this engine works well without nitro?
   rcmodelreviews. (86%)
They produce plenty of power on 0% nitro but the mid-range and transition becomes *very* tricky to adjust. I run 5% nitro in mine and it's a lot better.
   Alvaro (58%)
I use recommended 10% nitro fuels and it works incredibly well
   topcom (75%)
My engine work on 0% nitro fuel with 18% castor. But work no so well, transitions not quick. Price of nitro fuel is 3 times of my fuel so I make my choice...
   Alvaro (58%)
Of course, Topcom, it's up to you, it's your choice, but planes are flying, with a low wing bird such as Z-Lin50, you can't play with the engine to stop while on air. You'll loose your plane against the floor
   topcom (75%)
I can save on fuel and buy new plane instead.
   sosimportacoes (77%)
stay very good with 10% of the nitro.

Turbobeaver (97%)
Well I,ve been doing some more research on this engine and the review that I read claims that it is the same physical size as the O.S .40 FX.I was having a hard time envisioning that seeing as this motor is a long stroke motor. It is suppose to have the same spacing on the engine bearers as the .40 FX as well.
   rcmodelreviews. (86%)
Yep, it's a standard 40/46-size crankcase.

I've got two of them and although they're quite powerful, they don't throttle at all well ** a symptom of being too overbored for the size of the casting. The transfer ports choke badly and that causes them to load up and run *very* rich in the mid-range, a problem that no amount of carb-tweaking can totally eliminate. Still, if you want an engine that just puts out lots of power they're damned good value.
   JohnnyB (82%)
I've had the same throttling problem with my Magnum 0.52. I essentially shelved it after futzing with the carb forever and crashing a couple planes because the engine died while trying to throttle up. **- Don't buy this engine **-
   Turbobeaver (97%)
Excellent points gentlemen. Thanks so kindly for the explanation and the heads up.Much appreciated.
   Turbobeaver (97%)
Yikes!Just put one of these in my cart for the heck of it to find out what the shipping cost would be.Would you believe $19.95 and that's just one engine. Not such a great deal anymore when you take the exchange factor into consideration. This is pretty well on par with what GMS .47's sell for here in Canada presently give or take a few bucks.Unlike the A.S.P engines sold here,GMS engine parts are easy to get here in Canada.Hopefully, that will change here at UH in the near future.
   Alvaro (58%)
it's not exactly the same, the crankset is a little wider so some motor holder will not get together with it
   Eric1180 (-53%)
i got 4 servos and 6 Large wheels 4in and many other mis stuff with the engine for only $19.00 Very fair if you ask me regardless of the $100 i saved that's only $10 more than the other US web site's shipping cost.

Recomended Model Weight, anyone know?
   Ron Smetsers (72%)
trainer models to 3,5kg and sports and aerobatics 2-2,5kg
   Alvaro (58%)
What about using this motor to change electric one from a Calmato 1400 sport?
   Ron Smetsers (72%)
I don't think the make an electric and glow version just for fun...
Its not advisable to put a glow engine on a EP plane.
But this engine is great for the glow powerd version.
   sosimportacoes (77%)
more or less 2,5kg stay very good.
   sosimportacoes (77%)
anyone for 46 engine. weight 2300 , 2500 kg
   Eric1180 (-53%)
i think up to 4kg it will be fine

a 10*6 ?????? it's little ... =(
   Turbobeaver (97%)
Yeas,prop size is incorrect.This engine should be swinging an 11x6-11x8 easily.A 10x6 is a .40 size prop.
   sosimportacoes (77%)
will stay very good with 11*6 a 11*7
   sosimportacoes (77%)
you can su 10*6 but I think better use 11/7. will stay very good.

O.K,lets try justengines dot calm and see if that gets bleeped(***) as well.
   ronald (67%)
it looks like the asp/sc i use mine in a funtana 40s with a 13x4 prop 10x6 is way to small
   Eric1180 (-53%)
I agree 10x6 to small

Avgust (86%)
quality??? is good?
   koopster (72%)
I have found the quality of this engine is great. The finish is really nice, the fit of everything is very good, lots of compression and an unbelievable amount of power. I ran one tank of gas through it at a very rich setting, then put it on the front of a 7lb (60 to 90 size) airplane. With an 11x5 prop it almost climbs out of site.
I love this little engine.
   Alvaro (58%)
try an 11x7, I'm using it that way in a Z-lin50, and it climbs like a rocket
   sosimportacoes (77%)
good. no but you need configure de low edle and the hi. but is goot. I think.
   sosimportacoes (77%)
yes this engine is more or less good.
   sosimportacoes (77%)
yes is good.
   sosimportacoes (77%)
