**WARNING** The larger bottom gear is fine now but my top gear just started slipping. The top gear is two pieces (inner and outer) the inner part is fine but the outer (teethed) part is slipping on the inner part. **-WARNING**-

This issue has been adressed. The gear will no longer slip on the pinion. The pinion is now splined and the gear will not slip. Good work HK. They listen to these comments.

I just assembled the HK450 (but no motor yet) and checked for this problem by trying to rotate the tail while holding the main rotor. Applied enough pressure for the teeth on the gear to skip, but no slippage. Perhaps this part has been fixed?

Just go buy the align part for $9 not worth trying to glue it, my heli went down twice due to this fault. This is the only weak part of the kit but unfortunately can bring your bird down instantly.

Carlos To solve the tail drive gear slip problem I did the following.
I drilled a 1mm hole in the base of the gear across the gear and shaft. After that I put a small pin, made of a small nail, in this hole fixing it with Loctite 601. Doing that is almost impossible that the gear will slip again. See a tutorial and some photos about this process at the following addresses:

Like many other bottom gear slipped just landing in grass. Luckily wasn't in flight as heli would have crash for sure. Fixed it by drilling 1/16" hole through gear and 1/4 way into shaft* screwed in one of the extra screws* then cut off with dremel. Solid as rock at no cost.

After putting the whole hk-450 together I almost crashed because the lower gear spins on the shaft, major pain to fix, beware of this problem or it could s**** your bird

The problem of the bottom drive gear getting loose is real and must be addressed during setup, otherwise you will regret it when you lose control of the heli anytime soon. Mine was fixed by filing the shaft a little on both sides and apply some epoxy before pushing the gear home.
