DOES NOT WORK ON THE TAIL FOR A HK 450 PRO. Got my kit today, 90% complete on build, but was recommend this for tail rotor, wasted my money....
   st200ol (61%)
It will work, you need an adaptor to fit it. That said you are better off using a larger servo.

Will my Mystry 40a SBEC with 5.5v BEC output hurt this servo? Thanks Todd

Do these servos work with HK401B gyro now? There has been info that they do not, then i'we read that they will fix the problem. How is it now?
   crush (38%)
Definately it will work with HK401B. I got my HK401B 2 days ago and ordered this servo yesterday will be recieving it in next 4 days :D. If you read reviews you will see many people saying it works great with 401B.
   Aefer (45%)
yes it works fantastic on my HK 450. I got mine a month or so ago so it will definitely work for you. just be sure to set the gyro properly of course.
   Biper (59%)
Works perfect with my 450 and HK401B.

Just received my new DS480. Is it normal that it keeps making some noise? Even without any load and no horn mounted it keeps "humming" like an overloaded servo. How can I fix that or does it not affect the functionality?
Thank you
Maho
   magnusEl (80%)
That is a normal behavior of a digital servo.
   Aefer (45%)
Yes it is perfectly normal. I'm using one on the tail of my HK 450 with HK 401B gyro. couldnt ask for anything better.
   troll32 (32%)
it's a metal digital servo so the noise is normal... u can't fix it ...
   traykov (38%)
This is an INCREDIBLE GOOD servo!!! It is normal to keep buzzing even without load. This is HiSpeed digital servo and there is no need to fix anything! Good luck!
   troll32 (32%)
it s normal...it s a metal gear digital servo...so it try always to go to zero...

Does it work with a GP750. If it works, which settings? 1520s/333Hz like i read down below for the spartan?
   troll32 (32%)
yes no problem with gp750 or any normal gyro..
   troll32 (32%)
yes ok with 1520s 333Hz
   Dominik (20%)
Thanks, would you say, it's better than a stock DS420 on the tail of the T-Rex 250?

going to go install on hk450gt right now with an align gp750. will see how it goes.

Just bear in mind that mine developed a slop in the gears after around 30 flights causing the tail to wag, its extemelly fast but i think it is not for tail...

Hey all, can anyone tell me if this servo actually works in DS digital servo mode?

Il be putting it on my first CP build, a HK-450MT, with the 401b gyro.

It has been shipped already, I just want to know to switch the gyro to DS or normal.

Thanks!
   nef003 (70%)
It does work on Digital very well along with the 401b Gyro.. It will keep your tail rock solid with the right setup.. :) for more help on setting up gyros go here and watch the video. :) it helped me tons.

   japie22 (49%)
It works fine with me on DS mode, i think it even should be on DS mode because it is a digital servo..
   stretch81 (12%)
Yes it does, in fact I HATE spending more money for the big NAME brands when to get a faster servo THEY want $50-$80 us. I use it with the HK401b, EXERLENT.. Just make sure your mech setup is spot on I use it with Esky servos EK2-0508 on swash and this on the tail with DIGITAL mode selected great centering

This is a great servo to keep your tail steady with almost any gyro. Good choice :)

If you are a virgin flier, make sure your bird does not go to far away from you! it always happens.. believe me. Has happened 2 times to me.. and i have crashed.. first time was horrible. the second was on 03-20-10 and it was easier.. but Don't let it go to far.. you'll loose orientation.

Since the servo has been branded TGY, has anyone noticed a drop in quality, specs or reliability?

This happened to SS ESC's and once been branded as HK ESC's quailty and trust went down the drain.

Keeping the old reveiws is not right either, they were for a MKS servo not a Turnigy!
   nef003 (70%)
I agree with you, the quality is lower! I used this on my CopterX 450 and had a minor crash incident were the tail tube got bent.

I noticed after repairs that the servo was acting up* turning on and off depending on the wire movement.

I decided to open it up and find out why. Once opened I saw the red power wire was loose from the solder. I had to re-solder.

At no point did the wires get pulled hard enough to break off. The solder was a cold solder and did not stick right. this is the reason why the servo kept turning on/off.
   strike-down (62%)
Turnigy is HKs high quality brand. It is identical to the MKS unit, just has the sticker swapped over so it is right to keep the old reviews in this case. Ive certainly not noticed a drop in quality/specs/reliability. Ive been working it hard, and its still just like new after 78 flights.
   stretch81 (12%)
yea tried the turnigy not happy must of got a dud one three and a half minite flight then on bench 2 days later put battery in and the servo is DEAD.sad thing is it is the most expensive 450 class servo i have ever brought, always had really good luck with thoes 9gm blue 2 dollar servos .At least you expect some not to work for $2 bit at 10 times the price I'm VERY VERY sad...
   stretch81 (12%)
Dont know about that but the first one i brought failed after 2 flights 2nd one is good after 4 batterys (approx 32mins flight time) When it works it is great

This servo wouldn't work for me in digital servo mode (1520us) on my GY520.
Did anyone get it working in anything other than analog mode on their GY520?
   electro68 (75%)
I have the same problem with the GY520 and the Align GP750, I asked MKS, and I got the answer: The R&D will solve the problem in the next firmeware .... Good for us..!!!
   Riva8406 (55%)
I had a similar issue with the Align GP750. The only solution, after the gyro has finished its initialization, is to disconnect the servo and connect it again. I got it work like this with mine.
   barryd (60%)
Riva8406, I tried your suggestion with my GY520 and it worked. Hope they can update the firmware so it's not necessary though.
   Dominikm (87%)
I would say that the "wiggle" that the GY520 does on initialisation, is interpreted as a bad signal by the servo, which then locks up. From the comments by a MKS engineer in various forums, it appears that they are blaming Futaba and have no intention of fixing this issue.
Surely, the correct behavior would be for the servo to start working again after it later receives what is perceived as a "good" signal. So, in my opinion, MKS should get moving and fix this problem.

I ordered MKS DS480 Digital Servo 1.85kg / .068sec / 10.9g. But I have received Turnigy DS480 Servo....If I buy a Mercedes, I would not get a VW!
   bigpops (48%)
It's the same servo, just a different sticker.
   andyv (43%)
mks is a good and known brand.I see no sense behind it, why a good brand label with turnigy? People in Europe want the brand that you bought, and not any other brand.
   bigpops (48%)
I agree with you to some extent, but if Hobby King want to push their Turnigy brand, re-labeling good products is one way to go about it.
   palex (54%)
If HC wants Turnigy, than should put this in the advertising. Is not fair for the customers. They pay for something and they receive a different product ... even the difference is just a label ... which I doubt. I'm just looking to my new MKS-ordered TURNIGY-received servo and I can say that the package is just a cheap **** plastic bag. Cannot be compared with the nice foam protection package which covers the MKS servo which I bought early when HC had the kindness to supply according with the description.
I haven't tried the servo, so I can not say if, in use, makes difference from the MKS. Perhaps they are identical, but at the first sight I was disappointed. In the first second I thought that I did ordered the wrong item.
There is no justification for a seller, even is offering the best price in the world, to offer something and deliver differently.

What next?
Order 200$ Futaba gyro and get a 20$ HC Turnigy one??? - after all, they both do the job.

Disappointed.
   andyv (43%)
10 days ago (on 5 January), I send an Mail to HC. Until to date, I have received no reply to my question. The only answer was:

We have received your request and one of our support staff will contact you shortly.....
   palex (54%)
their help desk is not the fastest ... still, 10 days seems too long even for HC.

However, I'm curios about the answer ...
   ckies (67%)
Agree!

Purchased a MKS DS480, and received a Turnigy DS480 today in simple plastic bag - compared to previously received MKS unit. Is this the same? Is this to be expected? We should receive products branded as ordered from advertising!!
   walterolin (42%)
I thought I ordered the wrong item when turnigy came in plastic bag!! Disappointing all around.
   3900Kv (62%)
Same here. Ordered MKS DS480 got turnigy DS480 in a cheap plastic packing. In case customers should at least have been informed. way it is being sold it mis-leading to say the least.
   Beeetle (40%)
Same here (Turnigy instead of MKS). But now, HK changed everything: Now it's sold as a Turnigy, and even in my order it's a Turnigy. Looks like I never ordered a MKS...

I think that's not the proper way to behave :(
   walter (69%)
I ordered a turnigy DS480 and received a turnigy DS480 - specs are the same - get over it!

BLAH BLAH! YOU ARE ALL COMPLAINING BUT KEEP BUYING FROM HK. uNDERSTANDABLE, EVERYTHING IS CHEAPER HERE THAN IN EU/UK. GUYS, GET OVER IT. CHEAP IS CHEAP FOR A REASON!! I KNOW IT IS INAPPROPRIATE TO SELL MERCEDES AND RECEIVE VW. IF YOU WANT TO REALLY COMPLAIN AND NOT JUST MOAN, STOP BUYING FROM HK!!!

Has anyone tried this with Assan 410 gyro? I've had good and bad luck with a lot of digitals on this gyro.
   po_au (78%)
If I'm not mistaken, Assan 410 Gyro does not support digital servos.
better double check it
   Roadrunner666 (80%)
Smb in reviews wrote that it can work together but it's probably fake. Did anybody tried the combination GA410 with MKS DS480 ? Thnx
   holsen (62%)
Can you get spare gears for this servo?
   William (64%)
The Assan GA410 DOES work with digital servos, the instructions even recommend a fast digital servo. I installed this servo on my 450-T-Rex clone with the Assan GA410 gyro. The gyro takes a minute or two to lock, but after that the tail locks solid. This is the best combination I have tried so far ... I use ch 7 for the gain and the travel has been adjusted to %53 for head-lock and %50 for "normal". These are the points where the tail stops "wagging".
other combination: Using a JR DS3400g I could set the gain down to %12 and get great stability, but the tail response was slow. With HTX900 servos, the gain was about %75 and the response was even slower (not enough torque from the HTX servos for quick maneuvers, worked OK for backyard hovering).
   bear740 (30%)
I am using the GA410 and the DS480 on a CopterX 450 and have had no problems whatsoever. I haven't found any difference between this combination and my Trex 450 with the Futaba 401 and 9257 based on general flying and light 3d.

Hi,
The spec says that it can handle up to 6V but, on the box of the servo, it is only specified 4.8V !
Anyone knowing if it needs a voltage stepdown or if it safe to use it with a 6V BEC (I have a BL35X ESC) ?
Thanks in advance.
   electrafly (76%)
This is from there site.
Operating Voltage: 4.8~5.0V
Torque:4.8V/ 1.85 Kg.cm
Speed: 0.068s/60°
Size: 22.5x10x23.5 mm
Gear Type: Metal + Aluminum-magnesium alloy Gears
Weight: 9.5g
Motor Type: Coreless Motor
Bearing Type: One Copper sets Bearing & Dual gemstones Ball Bearings
   Riva8406 (55%)
Yes, but from there website, you can also find this document ( **********.digarts.***.tw/mks-servo/images/ad/2009DMa-update.jpg ) saying that the operating voltage is 4.8~6.0V !
Which one to believe ???
   Marek (58%)
I have used this servo for some time (like 10 packs) on 6V and it did not die a sudden death. Which does not mean it liked it. Now I run it on 5V and see no noticeable impact on performance.
