This little screamer will have you tearing up the sky in no-time. Equiped with a high-kv motor, small propeller and a very smooth finish EPO foam surface (almost glossy) this plane can reach high speeds in a short amount of time, yet glide in gently to land thanks to its forgiving and large wing design. An extremely easy plane to fly at half throttle and a noisy, fast eye opener at WOT!

Can i use a 2s 1300 mah 7.4v battery to power the axn glider?
Robachan
(79%)
2S 1300 lipo is no good for 2 reasons. First it's just too light for good center of gravity. You need at least 120g pushed all the way forward in the nose, preferably a little more. Second, a 2S doesn't give enough power, unless you use a bigger prop. I haven't tried it myself, but maybe a 6x5, or if you cut just a little foam, a 7x4 or 7x5, maybe 7x6.

Help. I have a H-K 4ch tx and cant get the AXN motor to run properly.
What is the proper way to connect to rx.
Esc to bat? so sad that there is no manual or instructions in shipments. Makes things difficult for beginners. Esc broken? Motor beeps but I cant get it to run as it should.
Robachan
(79%)
ESC is the speed control for the motor, so you need to connect it to the channel that controls the motor. On my HK-TR6A Rx, it is CH3. Ailerons in CH1. Make sure when you push the aileron stick right, the right aileron goes up and the left down. If not, flip the reverse switch on the transmitter. Check the rudder and elevator as well. When launching, use about two-thirds throttle and give it a little up elevator. With the motor mounted on top, these tend to push down a bit until you pick up speed. Same goes with giving throttle after gliding, slowly increase throttle while giving a little up elevator (or you can give lots of throttle and lots of up elevator).

I have the connections correct but the motor wont run anyway (servos work fine). Motor, ESC or both to be replaced?
Nice that its broken on arrival. What motor and ESC would be a fitting and durable choise? I would gladly install a motor different of stock, it seems to be ****py anyway? Thanks for helping.
SAKDAVONG

Some ESCs need that you first switch on the TX with 0 throttle, then connect the battery, you'll see that the ESC will answer you, then the motor will work !

Hi, i want to buy this plane but i don't have transmitter yet. Does the kit include trasmitter?
or i will buy a transmitter and receiver?
Snuffalupagus
(0%)
it's a "plug and play" you will need your own transmitter, receiver, and battery.
I recommend a computer type radio with channel mixing capability - mix in 80% rudder to aileron channel and set it on a switch and fly it like a champ on the right stick. I run a spektrum DX6i
Robachan
(79%)
A DX6i is great, but a Hobby King 2.4Ghz 4Ch Tx & Rx works fine for this plane and is much cheaper. Don't get the 6Ch unless you want to program it with a PC.

I'm not familiar with that Tx/Rx but I assume it would work as long as the range was enough. Helis don't have to fly so far away, so you probably should do a real range test.
Sjoerd

You will need to buy a transmitter and receiver yourself, take a look at the hobbyking 2.4 kit with 6 channels (2 more channels then needed but you never know for the future if you want to start with helis for example) only 28 dollar.

all up weight with an 1800 pack and a spektrum 5 channel AR500 on board is around 25-26 ounces.

Why are these pushers so noisy? I got local folks whinging about it and wonder if it can be sorted easily?
Snuffalupagus
(0%)
not much can be done with it because - it's all about the prop... pushers usually need to run a small, low pitch prop - 5x5, 6x4, etc. I have the same issue with my stryker - the old timers at my field don't like me to fly it.
unfortunately, in order to get any kind of performance and power out of such a little prop you have to spin the bugger REALLY REALLY fast using a high KV motor. the faster the prop is spinning, the closer to supersonic the blade tips will be. as the blade tips approach the speed of sound they generate more noise as they cut the air. the only solution is to go to a bigger prop and spin it slower using a lower kv motor... not really an option on a high performance pusher - as you either lop the plane's own tail off (on an Estar or Floater jet) or bust a prop every time you land (stryker and flying wings) If your neighbors complain you may want to explore the option of going to a small 1.5 meter warmliner style straight wing sailplane with a lower KV motor and bigger prop - they are much more quiet, and still plenty exciting to fly, but require a more steady hand on the stick and more skill to fly well than these hot little pushers.
Snuffalupagus
(0%)
that they are... I just ordered a upgrade hot motor for mine. 1.15 to 1 thrust ratio here I come!! Woot woot!! should go vertical like a bat out of hell with it's ass on fire.
Robachan
(79%)
With just a little foam cutting you can fit a 7 inch prop and try it with a 2S lipo to reduce prop speed. TGS Sport props are exactly like the supplied ones. I'd start with a 7x4 and if that's not enough power try a 7x5 or 7x6. Make sure your 2S lipo is 120g or more for proper CG (or use nose weight).

I'm thinking of getting this plane, but I don't have a radio or battery.
Is this a good radio to start with
HK-7X 2.4Ghz 7ch w/ 5 Model Memory TX & RX V2 (Mode 2)
Regarding the battery.
ZIPPY Flightmax 1800mAh 3S1P 40C
is this the same as the 3S 1300mAH they spec above. I know the 1800 is more but what does the 3S1P and 40C mean?
Snuffalupagus
(0%)
3S1P means it's a 3 cell battery (11.1 volts) 40C is the discharge rate - the higher the C rating the faster you can drain the battery without damaging it.
for the record, this plane flies EXTREMELY well on a 3 cell 1800 milliamp Lipo battery. if you put the battery all the way forward in the nose it'll be at near perfect. I happen to own one of these axn floater jets - it's one of my favorite "screw around planes" Remember to purchase a Lipo specific charger and PLEASE PLEASE remember to read up on the care and potential hazards of lipo batteries so you can safely enjoy the sport.
you will enjoy this plane - it's a great performer - just fly it easy till you get the hang of it. no need to go full throttle. try flying 1/2 throttle till you get a feel for her... later you can put the spurs to her and see what she can do.
here's a hint: use plenty of rudder to make it turn best - aileron authority is low, so "banking and yanking" it isn't the best way to turn her - use the rudder to help really crank it around.
Snuffalupagus
(0%)
unfortunately this mounts the prop WRONG. lettering should face the direction you want the plane to go. do yourself a favor and buy a 3mm collet prop adapter (HK sells em' cheap) there is enough shaft forward of the built in prop saver mount to use the adapter. a high mount pusher prop doesn't need a prop saver anyway. ditching the rubber band attachment and facing the prop in the proper direction for the best bite of air will make this plane perform to it's full potential.
prop saver and backwards prop = un impressive performance. 3mm collet adapter and properly oriented prop = unstoppable near vertical performance.
kim
(50%)
At first sight that was what I thought too.
By looking at the shape of the prop, I would agree to put the lettering forwards. I was unsure so thats why the question. Thanks.

Where do you get replacement propellers for this?
I don't see any Pusher props listed in 5x5 or 6x4 only 10x6. Is the trick to reverse the motor direction?
Beaufighter
(-25%)
It is electric. Pusher props are for turning "wrong" way, and grooves on the "wrong" side, so it will stick to the motor when fitted the wrong way. Electric motors can be run both ways, and electric props usually have no grooves, so no pusher props.

Whats the best way to set up an air brake on this plane, with flapperons or spoilerons ??? how about the elevator??
Beaufighter
(-25%)
30 degrees spoilerons kills virtually all lift, make it come down brick style, nice if you have to decend from a thermal or if coming in to high for landing. Mix in 20%ish down elevator, or it will nose up and may stall when armed. Remember to turn off before landing, it will come down HARD if not. Flapperons (at least neccessary amount for braking) made mine unstable if speed was not kept very high, not recommended.

At 1130 KV (approx 12430 rpm no load, verses AX-2210N at 11770) It should be OK. Spec sheets at ************.rcgroups****/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2528537 say prop speed of 8004 rpm. Also check out ************.rc-model.cn/Motor.htm for full specs. (This site mentioned in the forum for the AX-2210N. Thanks Bellakelpie for that.

My plane arrived and the motor "kicked back" on occasion making a clicking sound and if the throttle retarded too quickley the motor would go into a spasm!. After 9 successful flights the motor spasmd (some sort of harmomnic fequency overdrive?) and then smoked Now the ESC still makes its first initialisation beeps but never brings the motor on line. I am not sure if the motor or ESC was/is at fault, so I shall replace both but would like to know what is the correct Motor and ESC to use as replacements?

i changed the esc since i put on a 6X4 prop. launched it and while elevating the motor stopped. i glided it down. the motor started to glitch and then nothing. the esc was hot and i didn't have it on long. also, i wasn't pushing it. i'm a glider. only had half throttle. it was all i needed, but it was too much for the esc. i changed the esc to a 25 - 30a* hobby king ss series. will report later how it does.

Hi, I've been flying cloudsfly for more than a year with stock setup, no problem except that some motor magnets came loose. Luckily i saw it before launch.
My ESC is a no name 20A ESC in yellow shrink tube.

mikec@aloha.net

using the 25/30 esc, the motor glitches still but not as bad. i never use full throttle because half throttle is all i need to get the height i want. this plane been above a real airplane and once in the clouds. if you don't push the motor, it's fine. i'm going to change to a 5 inch prop. more throttle required, but cooler esc. i'll still achieve the height i want.

This plane flies so well. It glides and easily stays up in the air a long while. I want to share some things I did. Tape the wings - sometimes they come loose in flight. Use a prop adapter. I lost a prop in flight due to the rubber band lost its elasticity. Then, tape the servos for the ailerons. Mine got loose in flight. Fortunately I had rudder and was able to land the plane. The next upgrade I will do is replace the servos, esc, and possibly the motor. The motor seems fine but glitches due to the esc. I will try programming the esc. I'll keep the motor awhile longer. Overall, this is my favorite plane to fly.

Try a Hobbyking 4ch Digital transmitter, it's great to start with and also has low cost. I would recommend a zippy flightmax 3s 1800mAh for this plane. With the 1300mAh battery (as HK recommends) the plane is tail heavy and the plane will be easy to crash. 2200mAh will be alot nose heavy. With the 1800mAh i found a perfect balance or else CG (Center of Gravity). cheers

an 1800 pack will be sweet in this plane.
for a radio I'd recommend a specktrum DX5 with an AR 500 receiver (can be had for around 100 dollars as a set)
this is an excellent plane - makes a good trainer for high speed planes like the Stryker or EDF jets
very responsive and fun to fly, but not boring. has no real bad habits if equipped with an 1800 pack.

The transmitter and receiver is largely dependent on what you want to spend. Spektrum makes great transmitters that are easy to use, however they are expensive. Hobbyking makes a 2.4ghz transmitter and receiver combo as well that takes a little more work due to ***r instructions but would work well also. I have this plane and I fly a zippy flightmax 2200 mah 3s lipo(20C). It works great and flies fantastically.
mikec@aloha.net

i am using the hk 2.4 ghz transmitter and receiver. works great! i am also using two 1300 and one 1600 3s 20c lipo batteries. on calm days with light wind, the 1300's are great being light it gets up high and floats a long time. the 1600 lipo, i get great height with a little stable flight due to the weight. i think the 1800 will be better. flight times for the 1300s are 40 minutes plus, including gliding. the longest was 44 minutes. i think 2 or 3 1300's are fine for flying a long time.
Robachan
(79%)
3S 1300 is too light for good gliding. It will porpoise (cutting throttle causes it to stall and drop a little before picking up enough speed to glide properly again). Needs 1500 to 1800 for best combination of wind penetration and gliding characteristics. 2200 will allow for flying in very windy conditions but not gliding very long. Don't know where MikeAloha gets his flight times (slope?) but realistic ones are 15-20 minutes. You don't want to take your lipos down too low so you can keep them in good condition. Good rule is they should be not much under 3.8v per cell (3S - 11.4v) after flight (3.7v is 0%).

Sjoerd, NO, NO. Don't even think about flying with a 2S 1300 lipo. Way too light for CG and not enough power. You need a minimum 3S 1300, and even then it's too tail heavy (but flyable). As I said earlier, best is 3S 1500-1800 and up to 2200 for windy days (which this plane handles quite well, btw).

I'd guess 60mph level, a little faster and more eficient cruise with a 6X4. Learn how to put your prop on right you should cruise at 1/2 throttle but all the power you can muster ca get you out of (or in to) trouble *)
Kaffine

Yeah i did a similar thing, I don't know if it was a third better maybe just noticable. Change it anyway, the prop is shaped to work in one direction and it does sound different and if it gets noticed at the local park you might get a few chuckles.
Pete
(30%)
Yes, the propeller direction definitely matters. The blades are shaped in a way to maximize power/efficiency and will be significantly decreased if placed on backwards. Your top speed depends on your battery. I use a 2200mah 3s 20-25C lipo and I estimate it gets to about 60 mph out of a dive.

About the stock ESC: mine was converted into a one time smoke generator with a typical smell of a test run of the crematorium around the corner from where I live. The burning of this ESC is not so bad as was the side effect of melting the housing of the rudder rod and glueing the rudder rod to the housing. I was not aware of this and with a new ESC in place while testing I heard the rudderservo doing some tooth-scratching while the rudder did not move. So I had to force (damaging the fuselage over half the length)the melted rudderrod housing and rod from the plane. It's OK now and ready for the 4th day in the field.
