Hi..I use this charger with DC13.5 volt input from a 5A supply, and after adjusting the potensiometers inside fully clockwise (CW)gave 4.14, 4.11 and 4.13 volt on a 3S 2200mA. Then i adjusted all the potensiometers fully anti clockwise (CCW)and this helped a bit, 4.17, 4.16 and 4.16 volt. Then i just adjusted the potensiometer for cell 1 a little clockwise.Is it safe to use up to 18V DC input???

Where do you get instructions for the camera and what do you do when you get error message when you plug it into the computer (USB device is not recognized please unplug and retry)???

Dear All, Id like to know how you will calibrate this charger, i opened it and found 4 pots for each charging circuit, does turning it clockwise increses charge cut off voltage? one morething is that the readout display charge status as percentage are there any mods to make it as voltage readout?

Does the .5A, 1A, 1.5A, and 2A indicate the current going to each cell or is this the MAX current for the battery back. For example, if charging a 1000mAh 2S Lipo with the 1A setting, will it give .5A to each cell taking 2 hours to charge, or 1A to each cell taking 1 hour to charge (theoretically).

Can this chager chage Lithium Ion batteries?Thanks!

So when I use this charger do I plug in the balance plug and the battery plugs or just the balance connector
Reply:
jonathan (22 points);
you plug the balancer plugs into the side and it charges through the balancer
You can charge with 2C if your battery supports 2C charging. If not I strongly suggest that you only use 1C charging since any more current could make your battery catch fire!!! Read the battery manufactures instructions and follow them.

what all does this come with? deans, traxxas, losi, etc connectors?

Hi! It comes with a connection wire with alligator clips and a plug that fits the charger. This hardness is for connection to 12v.
The plug for connection to batteries is of JST-XH type. You only connect the balance plug and the charger will charge each cell through the balancing hardness attached to the battery. You do not connect the battery discharge plug to the charger at all so it does not matter which plug you are using as long as the balance plug are of JST-XH type (Rhino, Zippy, Turnigy etc use this plug).
You can connect 4s, 3s or 22s batteries to this charger.
Ednac (9 points);
I use an old computer power supply, with some banana/screw terminals mounted to the outside of the case. These supplies give clean 12V power and are capable of quite a few amps.
Lindsay 22 (45 points) 9/19/2009
Are the balence plugs the standard JST-XH. will it charge 1000mAh's and 5000mAh's?
Reply:
T.rex.450 (13 points);
It will charge 500-5000mAh and higher capacity batteries. But when you connect 2000mAh and higher capacity batteries it will take over 1hour to charge it. The 5000mAh battery will in theory use 2.5hour to recharge if completely empty.

I'm totally confused. My charger seems not to work properly at all. Got x2 2s800mah both are around 3,6v on all cells. Charging starts, after an hour or so I see blinking. 1-100% 2-65% 3-80% 4-92% It didn't charge them but totally disbalanced. Took me hour to balance the packs back with Infinity charger. Am I doing something wrong? It is not able to charge even 1 2S. Only 3S seemed to charge fine once. I won't be buying such craap anymore *)

I'd say the one you got is faulty. This thing is supposed to be completely foolproof - I got its older twin brother HXT 8080 and it never let me down. Balances may be off small percentages, never mind.

Is the cooling fan supposed to run all the time?
Reply:
Wireman (18 points);
Yes, it does. Until the charge cycle is done, you can hear the fan going. But that's ok, I think. It's not too noisy as I think anyways.

you can charge only at 1A 12 and 13 volts no so differents

My Turnigy 420 doesn't make a good job to either the 2S 800 mAh or the 3S 2200 that I have. When it states 100%, my little E-Sky charger need around an hour to fill up the bigger ones, and like 30 minutes to fullfill the smaller Li-Po's I have. Anyone having the same problem? \\Wireman

Would this charger charge a 180mah battery ok?
Reply:
Beaufighter (755 points);
No, not safely. As the minimum charge current is 500mA, you will charge at 2.5C, and unless your battery is rated for 2-3C charge, it is not safe, nor good for the battery lifetime.
This is an awsome little charger, you can choose 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0 Amp rate, the corisponding lights for the cell goes from green to orange when charging and then back to green for each cell when full. The volt percentage cycles through each cell during charge to let know where it's up to. dead simple to use, it also has a cooling fan. Perfect cut off rate at 4.21 volts for each cell. Good on ya H/City, keep these trick products comin'. C ya.

Just enough features to get the job done. Great price. Good parts: • Overall construction looks good. • Digital readout is handy. • Balance charging is consistent. Bad parts: • Cell volts off 4.24, 4.13, 4.12 out of the box, but easy to fix. Open the case up and adjust the pots to get proper volts. After adjustment, 4.18, 4.16, 4.16 • Digital readout not linked to charging. 100% doesn't mean done. • A manual would be nice! WTF Start button?

woops I forgot to put my name on the awsome little charger review. also there is a little start button beside the balance ports but it doesn't seem to do any thing on mine, the charger starts automaticaly when you plug in the batt, so all you have to set is the charge rate button and plug in the batt and bob's your uncle. So to top off these reviews this a very easy, simple and cheap charger that will satisfy your needs for 2, 3 and 4 cell jobs.

Turnigy 420 Charger/Balancer

I was looking for a good quality and fairly priced Lipo charger, my first buy was a venon 2/3 cell charger-balancer, I did a good job for 2 cells but my 3 cell lipos were never balanced. So I keept on looking until I found this cool charger.
It's good for 2-4 cell has a variable charge rate, you have a LCD that shows porcentage of charge per cell, and a led that goes green once charge is complete for each individual cell.
So you can perfectly balance and charge your lipo at a super afordable price.
Similar products on the US cost about 70, using the most expensive shipping, this costs about 42, and was delivered in 3 days.
With the money you save you can buy a couple of extra lipo.
I've tested each cell using a voltimeter and 2 cells are perfect 4.20 volts, one is 4.19.
Using my little venon charger usually I had one cell 4.17, 4.16 and 4.12. I had to go trhough all my lipos using the turnigy and they are all perfect.
The case is all metal and feels sturdy. You can check the state of your lipos by plugging it in the balancer/charger port without a DC supply. It will flash "No.1" denoting cell 1, then say "80%" then "No.2", "82%" etc and cycles continously it also does this whilst charging giving you an instant update. There are also 4 LEDs on the side which lets you see the number of cells of your pack and each turns from RED to GREEN once it has reached 100%. For example, for an uncharged 3s battery it will display 3 RED LEDs and one GREEN LED, the RED LEDs will turn off successively upon charge completion for each cell. Upon charging, the fan turns on and for a 3s battery initially with 3.82, 3.80 & 3.82 volts(checked using a DMM) displayed as 70, 64 & 70% on the charger respectively. Upon 100% it yeilded 4.14, 4.12 & 4.13 volts respectively and you know its finished when the fan turns off automatically. It seems like a decent charger/balancer. Hope this description was of help.

A word of advice for anyone in fringe areas for radio & TV reception (or if you own a CB or HAM radio station), these units (like their Hextronik HX8080 cousins) emit very large amounts of radio frequency interference. Be prepared to put a good-sized RFI choke on the power leads (and possibly the battery leads too).
THIS IS THE SAME AS HX8080 BUT THIS ONE HAS A METER IN IT TO TELL YOU HOW LONG ABOUT YOU GOT LEFT TO FIN. THE CHARGEING GOOD CHARGER .. BEST PRICE!!!

I love this charger. It is a perfect choice for the serious park flyer who is more interested in spending more time in the air and less time fiddling with complicated gadgets. My unit arrived in perfect condition and in good time to Australia, and although it come with no instructions it is a 'no brainer' to use. I highly recomend this little beauty.

A great charger, I especially like the current capacity indicator telling you how much you have on the bat. I had one crash when I had low power that I didn't know. This feature would have save me that crash. You know, one crash would cost you more than the price of this unit. I had two other brand chargers before, one's fan is too noise and the other is just a balancer... This one is quiet.

Great little charger. My 3S balanced out to 4.2, 4.2 and 4.19. Instructions would be help. The "start" switch does seem to be a mystery. All LEDs do illuminate grenn when the cycle is completed. Good bang-for-buck.

This is an excellent charger. Very easy to use, although no instructions came with the unit. LED display is fantastic, and offers real confidence that your lipo's are being charged to their capacity, as well as being balanced. Great bang for bucks...
