lalagi (9 points) 9/26/2009
can i charge with 2c the battery?
  Reply:  T.rex.450 (10 points);
Hi!

You can charge with 2C if your battery supports 2C charging.
If not I strongly suggest that you only use 1C charging since any more current could make your battery catch fire!!!
Read the battery manufactures instructions and follow them.

what all does this come with? deans, traxxas, losi, etc connectors?
  Reply:  T.rex.450 (10 points);
Hi!
It comes with a connection wire with alligator clips and a plug that fits the charger. This hardness is for connection to 12v.

The plug for connection to batteries is of JST-XH type. You only connect the balance plug and the charger will charge each cell through the balancing hardness attached to the battery. You do not connect the battery discharge plug to the charger at all so it does not matter which plug you are using as long as the balance plug are of JST-XH type (Rhino, Zippy, Turnigy etc use this plug).

You can connect 4s, 3s or 22s batteries to this charger.

What is the best power suply for this charger
  Reply:  T.rex.450 (10 points);
The 12V 5A Power Supply from HC will plug right in to this charger and it does a good job supplying the needed current.
  Reply:  Ednac (7 points);
I use an old computer power supply, with some banana/screw terminals mounted to the outside of the case. These supplies give clean 12V power and are capable of quite a few amps.
Lindsay 22 (39 points) 9/19/2009
Are the balence plugs the standard JST-XH. will it charge 1000mAh's and 5000mAh's?
  Reply:  T.rex.450 (10 points);
It will charge 500-5000mAh and higher capacity batteries. But when you connect 2000mAh and higher capacity batteries it will take over 1hour to charge it. The 5000mAh battery will in theory use 2.5hour to recharge if completely empty.

It is the standard JST-XH balance plug.

quick question, If you choose to attach this charger to a car battery, Can you have the car running, or does it need to be off?
  Reply:  Flew Boy (223 points);
Works great :) I do it alot because I also charge 3000mAp 5s batteries and my car battery goes flat :( just stop the charger, start your car then start charging again :D happy flying *)

I'm totally confused. My charger seems not to work properly at all.
Got x2 2s800mah
both are around 3,6v on all cells.
Charging starts, after an hour or so I see blinking.
1-100% 2-65% 3-80% 4-92%
It didn't charge them but totally disbalanced.
Took me hour to balance the packs back with Infinity charger.
Am I doing something wrong?
It is not able to charge even 1 2S. Only 3S seemed to charge fine once.
I won't be buying such craap anymore *)
  Reply:  bdoets (156 points);
I'd say the one you got is faulty. This thing is supposed to be completely foolproof - I got its older twin brother HXT 8080 and it never let me down. Balances may be off small percentages, never mind.

Is the cooling fan supposed to run all the time?
  Reply:  Anders (8 points);
Yes, it does. Until the charge cycle is done, you can hear the fan going. But that's ok, I think. It's not too noisy as I think anyways.

you can charge only at 1A
12 and 13 volts no so differents
suzonka (14 points) 5/31/2009
will a 13 volt 1 Amp wall charger work with the turngy 420 charging a 2150mah 3s rhino battery. so far not to many answers for the wall chargers questions and mostley about what amps needed in a wall charger for 12 volts? thanks anyone .
  Reply:  Flew Boy (223 points);
copy and paste this link, this is the power pack I use and it's perfect.

what amp setting so i use to charge a 1050mah 2S?
  Reply:  Anders (8 points);
My Turnigy 420 doesn't make a good job to either the 2S 800 mAh or the 3S 2200 that I have. When it states 100%, my little E-Sky charger need around an hour to fill up the bigger ones, and like 30 minutes to fullfill the smaller Li-Po's I have.
Anyone having the same problem?

does anyone have the instructions for for a turngy 420

Would this charger charge a 180mah battery ok?
  Reply:  Beaufighter (707 points);
No, not safely. As the minimum charge current is 500mA, you will charge at 2.5C, and unless your battery is rated for 2-3C charge, it is not safe, nor good for the battery lifetime.

I am pleased with mine, can't buy anything like it for that price in the shops over here.

Peter Mclean,

Have just purchased this ballance charger and it is fantastic to use in conjunction with 3s and 2s batteries in the plane whilst at the field.

Excelleny.

Hi, can I use wall adapter od DC12V and 500mA? I will only charg at 500mA or can I get more A?
mattk0 (55 points) 4/14/2009
Yea, I've tried about 3 now and all get to about 4.14 at the most.
  Reply:  Beaufighter (707 points);
You get a somewhat early shutoff if charging a little to high current (if your battery is a 1300mAH and you charge 1.5A) Charge at lower current, and you end up with a higher cutoff voltage.
  Reply:  flyfly (161 points);
all cells should finish at 4.2v. charging to high can damage batteries. If it still happens at a lower Amp then your charger might be faulty??
  Reply:  mattk0 (55 points);
Thanks Beaufighter. I think that might be the case. I was charging 350mah batteries at the .5A rate. I'll try my 800 on the 1A rate and see what happens. Thanks,
  Reply:  Beaufighter (707 points);
Try the 800 battery at 0.5A setting to see if it ends a bit closer to 4.2V.

Btw, a cell difference of 0.01-0.03V must be acceptable on a cheap charger like this (if you calculate the percentage, you'll find that it is very accurate:)
  Reply:  pudytat (1176 points);
This is a balanced charger, not a BALANCING charger. If your battery pack is unbalanced from the get-go, it will not fix it.
mattk0 (55 points) 4/14/2009
So far I'm liking the simplicity of this charger but is anyone else having issues with it only charging to 4.13ish and not being perfectly balanced (according to my voltmeter it shows, 4.13, 4.09 and 4.12)
  Reply:  flyfly (161 points);
sounds like something is wrong with your battery. have you tried other batteries with the charger?? I have not got one but someone else does at our club and he is very happy with it and has not told of any problems in charging
way2broke (3 points)
does the red digital read out come on automactically, mine does not show any numbers or anything new battery, old battery, charging or not nothing.
  Reply:  way2broke (3 points);
hello folks can someone please offer somehelp on the above subject..please
  Reply:  CARL (185 points);
Hi way2broke,yes the red display will come on whilst charger is charging and it cycles through giving a % reading of each cell being charged,continually repeating*hope this helps you?Thanks.
  Reply:  Alan (120 points);
You must use the charger outlets in sequence ie 1/2/3/4. so. if you are charging a 2c bat in the 3/4 outlet you will not get a digital read out, try it in the 1/2 outlet socket, hope this makes sense. Cheers
