Hi, I have a walkera60B electric Heli and after checking specs for several servos, I found HXT500 size can fit the heli.Are these servos good for the cyclic for this size of a heli?(400 size)

The ones that I received last week says TowerPro inside the casing. Is this good or bad?

I notice there are no rubber shock isolators/grommets in the picture and none are mentioned as included. Do they not come with the servo?

Rubber shock isolator not included. This servos is for small electric model.

Every servo comes with several different arms. Did you use all of those? The cross-shaped ones could be clipped off and used as standard arms. I do it all the time.. Stil have dozens of them lying around.. Could send you some if you're from Holland? (would be too expensive for international)

Do you think this servo would work to open and close the canopy on the T-28 Trojan from parkzone? I'm looking to build a canopy that opens and closes but I'm not sure if it is powerful enough. Any help would be great! Thanks!
Is this servo digital? (I have to use it with my 3PK on HRS). Or shut I look for another? And what shoud it be?
Hobe for help - Kristian

This is not a digital servo! All digital servos are described as digital in the descr1ption (search for "digital" in the quick search).

I notice that the wires are color coded differently from a futaba servo. I assume that the red wire is the same as the red for futaba. Does the yellow wire relate to white and brown wire relate to black on the futaba servo? It looks like with the universal connector, it would be easy to plug them in upside down and get the polarity wrong.

David (3 points);
I will answer my own question in case someone else needs to know. I got the correct answer on another RC forum. Brown relates to the black wire on a Futaba servo and is ground. The orange (or yellow) wire is signal and relates to the white wire on a Futaba servo.

No, the servo was not overload, the model has only 1m(40inch)wingspan and weights only 500g(15,3Oz). It was powerede by an e-max 2822, 8x6APC and Zippy3S2200. I flew these servo on this model for more than 2 motnhs without any problem, but today I have this, lost my model... :(

Michael (13 points);
Yes, the servo was overloaded. These are way too small for anything but small foamies, I'm surprised they worked at all. You should use at least a 9g HXT900 servo or equivalent for a plane of that size. Like it or not, that is why you lost your plane.
Alwin (27 points);
I fly fullsize DLG's with the HTX500* of course these only weight 250-300 grams but forces can be severe. Still, none of them ever failed me - and I used 30+ of them in planes. Sounds like just bad luck to me. Too bad for your plane though.
Kevin (105 points)
You don't say what size the aircraft was... Are you sure that this would be the right type of servo for the aircraft? It sounds like the servos were overloaded.

Guys, be carefull with these servos, I don´t like them, I bought two here on hobbycity and put on my electric Cherokee, on the Rudder and on the elevator, the servo of the elevator burn and lock the models fly direct to the ground ! I lost my Cherokee because these servos ! I´ll never use these servos anymore.

Don't say such things ) These servos are perferct in the cost/quality ratio. I thing your problem was you used HXT 500 in your model instead of HXT 900. For the plane above 400 grams HXT 900 are prefered.
P.S. Always check the "crispy" sound in the servo before flight - if it crisps just fit a new one - they ARE really cheap!
Felar Furlong (404 points)
the sizes are incorrect. hxt500 and hxt900 both have similar sizes in their descrlption, but in fact hxt500 is much smaller. btw, hxt500 and hxt900 are the best of the best.

I have a E-flite Taylorcraft ARF. Do I need the HXT500 or would the HXT900 be a better servo?

Being an expert in the HXT servos, I would advice to use HXT 900 if the flying weight of your model is 350gr and above. HXT are also nice, but would mostly suit lighter airplanes and preferably not 3D
REALLY GREAT SERVO! I think it is the best servo in this price and weight range! They are really fast and without problems to use! Recommended!!
Super Servo! Sehr schnell und eine super Rückstellgenauigkeit! Benutze für Servos in dieser Größe nur noch die HXT500 und bis jetzt ohne Ausfall oder irgendwelche Probleme! Sehr zu empfehlen!!

Review: pros+cons

These are basically TowerPro SG50 servos. Their characteristics is quite good.
Pros: + no play (dead band). Not even mechanical (teeth wag) nor electrical (by off-tolerance el. components in AA51880 ref. design) + highly accurate (results from the above) + fine-stepping (highly suitable for micro helis) + fast movement (.10 sec/60deg/4.8V), which makes them perfectly suitable even for heli rudder servo applications + weight. It is a bit above the spec about 6.5g incl. the connector wire + durability + withstands quite high load compared to its size
Cons: - their servo horn shafts are placed somewhat more to the middle of the servo face, which means that slight collective non-linearity may result with heli's eCCPM heads, as most designs need the horn shaft positioned closer to the servo upper bottom. However this is becouse of larger horn shaft gear diameter, which results in higher load handling (that outweights this flaw very well).
Money very well spent. These are by far the servos with the best price/performance ratio I know to date.

Perhaps the best server ever for models with weight below 500 grams: 1) Very light (it may weight a bit hevier but you can handle it by replaycing the wires and drilling holes in it) 2) Very cheap (please show me a server on the market with the same parameters and with a less price - unreal) 3) Very good quality (it IS precise, smooth and well centered, best if used in foamies under 300gr. weight 4) Need more? I once was out of servos and given an HXT 500 by a friend - from that time I order only them and HXT 900 for my hevier models. Oh, by the way, in Russia this servo would cost 10 times more!

Just received 4 of them from friend who got them through United Hobbies.
I was little sceptic with pricing bellow 4$ and installed them on low wing 30's racer on OS 25 egine. With wing span of 40" I could install 2 of them for wings and still have total weight for all servos at fraction over 1 oz ! Response is very positive and no usual "dead band" around center as found on other "cheaper" servo models.
They definitely get my vote.
Next order I am getting some more.

- Center well - No bad geartrain noises - small size - fairly long servo lead
My favorites in this size.
Thanks

These servos are really great. I've replaced former hs-55 in my 80cm fun-fly shockflyer with them and strenght is fine and much higher speed is really great. I ordered 15 of them for all my parkflyers :-)
No better servo for this price!

Don't waste your money buying more expensive servos. These are the best in their class. Have used them for aileron servos in gliders with one for each aileron (Flaperon)and one each for elevator and rudder. They're tight, precise, fast and strong. I have a dozen and I'm buying more.

Nice Servo. Good centering. I Ordered 4 of them for a 3D Shockflyer for outdoor use. The servo can be stripped down to 3.5g by cutting of the cable and using copperwire plus removing the ground plate. The screw for the servo arm can be left away aswell. And the price talks his own language

Nice little servo with good centering and very fast, has significantly less torque than the hxt900! Tried a HXT900 and a HXT500 during winter (Temp about 5°C below zero), HXT900 worked well but HXT500 started to jitter and stopped...

At under $4, this little servo is a real steal. Heck, it costs less than replacement gears for many other servos in its class. The HXT500s I own are quiet, smooth, they don't chatter and have amazingly good centering. At this price, you really can't go wrong, unless you need a highly-accurate, ultra-fast, super-strong micro servo. Overall, the HXT500 is a smart, economical choice for many applications.

I've only had tried it for a few flights, but they work well. Close to the same size as a HS-50 or HS-55 but not quite, unfortunate if you have molded servo mountings. Also leads are shorter. The horns are quite a bit thicker too. Sometimes the servo seems to settle very slowly, last bit of travel seems to go very slow. But not every time? Less jittery than the HS-55.

Wow, what a great value! I have not had any problems with it. I flew my DLG for an hour and a half, powered by a single cell Lipo, and when I recharged, only 50 mAh was used.

very nice little servo.
i use one of them in my katana mini (precision aerobatics, 800g, Axi2808/24, HXT 3s 1700) on the rudder and it works great!! no fault till now. (although i think this servos were not developed for such high load)

I have bought several HXT500 for rudder tail of micro heli, 2 TRex and one SJM400 for the first time it has been possible to put the maximum gain on gyros (Align500 and GY401)without oscillations because these servo have a very low inertia due to the coreless motor. It is an amazing potential for the price. On an other side torque and precision are not very good, but enough for rudder tail.

Ordered 5 of these. 2 worked fine, 2 buzz/jitter (1 pretty bad, 1 acceptable) and 1 didn't work at all. Given all the positive reviews these little servos have garnered I'm assuming I may have just received a bad batch. For this reason I will take a chance and order another 5 before making final judgment. For now, the ones that I have that do work are performing just fine on my inexpensive foamies.
