TowerPro 9g w12A Brushless Speed Controller

A great little 12A BESC, very light and very stable.
This is the newer generation, with a much smoother throttle curve.
The BESC weighs 9g, however if you change the wires and remove the heatshrink it can be around 6-7g

trying to use 2 of these, with 2 1300kv blue wonders for a twin. Can't get them to power up, gets the 5 tone beep, then if I move throttle stick, just constant rapid beeping, no motor start. I also tried disconnecting the red wire on one controller, had same problem, then tried just 1 motor/one speed control...same thing. I have a couple of the older version of this esc, and they work perfectly. Any ideas what to try next?

I believe it is wanting to calibrate the throttle range. Try powering up with the throttle all the way up. Wait for it to beep a few times and then lower the throttle to the bottom. I've had to do this a some of these.

It's a shame what it takes to send the articles to meet lead times tones:

I use two of them and no problem but on a 25A Towerpro controller I had this...put your throttle stick full and put connect your battery, look your motor/controller connections too
   travling (-14%)
try putting your trim to a - on throttle. might not be reading as 0 throttle .
   troll32 (32%)
did you turn on with motor connected or NO?
   gardleopard (50%)
Have the throttle at zero, then plug in battery, after a beep give 100% throttle hold it there for a short time, then back to zero.

you must program the esc before motor will start. use procedure in manual

I bought this ESC in my Piaget EPP on a 2 cell LiPo works OK, but for 3 cell LiPo not work. I wanted to reprogram it, I entered prgramming mode. Mod contains 8 basic items, and I do not know what each item means, so that I can not program. Factory manual lists only 4 basic items. Anyone knows what each item mean? Thanks for any help.
Programming menu: 1. 1 ton -
2nd 2 ton - -
3rd 3 ton - - -
4th 4 ton - - - -
5th 1 long ton **-
6th 1 long 1 short **- -
7th 1 long 2 short **- - -
8th 2 years **- **-

i think thats the warning tones your looking at, its just a configueration for it. There might be another programming menu, but that one is not it.

If you wan use 2S Lipo with ESC MAG8 make folowed:
Set ESC to NiMh/NiCd battery
Why? If you plug fresh charged 2S LiPo, it have output voltage nearly 8,4V. 8,4V = 7cell NiMh/NiCd. Cutt off voltage protection for NiMh/NiCd is 0,8x7(cell)=5,6V (2,8V/cell) and its better protection then original setting for LiPo mode = 5,4V !!! For good cut off voltage protection is nessesery always used fresh charget battery!!!

I just received it, and I'm somehow frustrated - I wasn't aware that it has no reverse function! I'm working on a RC-Blimp - without reverse this will not work :(. Is it possible to activate a reverse function via programming??
   Beaufighter (-25%)
No, I'm afraid reverse is not available. A standard esc for aeroplane/heli never comes with reverse, as all radios have endpoint with stick all the way down (it would be a pain to fly an airplane if you reversed the motor below center throttle...) For reverse function you must buy a specialized car esc, or in your case an adjustable/reversable pitch propeller would do nicely.
   Jens (46%)
thanks for the tip a reversable pitch propeller could be the solution do you know where i can get one.

Note - Variable pitch prop setups are being used for some advanced F3P Indoor Aerobatic planes. Some use the tail drive from a helicopter.

   wyatt (100%)
i dont think so, you may need to purchase a new esc, but just save that one for a airplane project

grimesr (54%)
I just recieved on.
Transmitter on full trottle, fully charged 3s, Hooked it up to esc, servos work, NO beep. Double checked connections. No beeps full or idle trottle. Any Ideas or is this one bad?

i have this speed controller, and today i run it all the way till the immediated cut off worked, once i got home i charged my 700mah battery and it only put in 400mah, is there anyway of changing the voltage cutoff or is this just my 700mAh 10 3cell that is overrated (in mAh's) ?

cheers

Patrick (84%)
I dont understand your English but i assume that you are saying that you are having problems. Try using a 3 cell pack or a half dead 2 cell pack.

btw: Hobby Citty QUITE RUDELY deleted my review.

Why have a 5 star ranking system when you are going to delete most reviews with less than 3-4 stars? Just make it a 1 star / no star review.

See my review. LVC is set to 2.7V which is incorrect. Causes full 2S pack to register as empty 3S pack. Also stresses your Lipo's.

As far as high KV, I could not get it to work well with 3000kv 24g motor on 3S. It did work ok at lower RPM (lower voltage)

This ESC needs better firmware. It is fine for someone who wants to run a 1300kv on 3S only.

I experienced the incorrect cell count detection issue as well....

Andrew (58%)
I have 2 of these and both refuse to work with higher KV motors eg hexTronik 24gram Brushless Outrunner 1700kv
I don't even get a beep from the motor although servos work fine. Any ideas anybody?

Everything ok the the cable?
   Fernando Costa (46%)
Happened the same with mine. I think the problem is the cell count confusion. I solved it pluging a fully charged 3S and the esc beeped instantly. now I can use a mid charged 2S. I use it with a 1404N 2290Kv 9.2g Outrunner and it works fine. Hope this helps.

I have 2 newMag 8 12A TP ESC's that will not allow either 2 or 3 lipoly cells to be used with factory settings. They will shut down at only 1/4 throttle.
Reset for NiMh/ Nicad and they now allow full throttle.
I understand the possible lipoly damage from too low a discharge but will risk it.
Anyone else had this problem ?

I had the same problem. This esc cofuses a full charged 2S Lipo with a low charged 3S Lipo. I usually use mid charged 2S with the setting in Lixx mode.
Fernando.
   Lauren (37%)
I've bought 3 of these and had the same problem. I set them to NiMh and use a timer so I don't go below voltage on my lipos. I noticed though on one that after I set it to NiMh, then back to Lipo it worked fine on 3 cells. Mostly though I just fly a fixed time.
