You need a UBEC for RX power or an additional battery for your RX

I just recieved one of these ESC and it does the same 10 music sequences with out any beeps.Do you have to supply power first to the reciever?
  Reply:  RicardoLuis (9 points);
Yes you need to power the RX first

No It doesn't

I would like to use this ESC in my next project. A 3d Yak 54 with a wingspan of 1.38 meters.
The motor is a Tunigy SK42-40 750 running on 2200 4s lipos. I'm also getting a 3 amp HXT UBEC. Can somebody tell me how to connect the it all? Thanks!

What means "opto only"?
  Reply:  ekajoe (8 points);
"Opto" means that you will need a separate BEC or a separate battery to operate your receiver and servos.

I NEED HELP, purchased this for HK450 build + (Turnigy Typhoon 2215H and TURNIGY 3A UBEC w/ Noise Reduction) have everything wired up and I can not get the motor to consistently start and run smooth. Diagnosed with a rimpax 45a esc and motor works and tested ESC + bec combo on another motor and works perfect. How should I program the esc to work with this motor???? I have messed around with the ESC but have not found a winning combo...
Brake Setting?
Throttle Setting?
Timing Mode Setting?
Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) Setting?

How to make it work with car?
sylvainfz6 (93 points) 9/14/2009
HELLO
I buy this controller
Only it will not feed my receiver
any output voltage
someone just tell me more?
THANK YOU
  Reply:  sylvainfz6 (93 points);
I find the problem
must use a UBEC
or an external battery for the reception
scott (1 points) 9/11/2009
just purchased this esc for my f-16 edf. downloaded pdf to program, but all i get is 10 beeps, not the 1-6 as described in manual
am i doing something wrong?, or is esc defective
DOCA-SP (981 points) 9/6/2009
Does This esc work in Helicopters ?
eimix (4 points) 7/31/2009
I have bought this ESC
i know it is for plains, it should run with boats.

But what about cars?
I have turnigy motor 10T 3300kv 540size
it runs very nice with ESC, no heating or other problems.

But it has low torque at low or zero rpms.
While car is not moving - and if i push full throttle - motor does not run normaly for some time until it reaches higher rmp.

It seems that ESC does not understand what is going on, and swithes power to next and next and next motor wire, it seems that it does every ~0.2-0.5 seconds at zero rpms (with load).

Almost same behaviour accures then motor shaft is held fixed with hand or pliers and throttle is applied. motor is frisking.

I hope you understand my explanation.

1. Is it normal?
2. Is it possible to change settings of ESC to make it better?
3. Is there any ESC suitible for car applications? (cheap and without reverse)

I bought 2 of these a few weeks ago. One I was able to programm without issue but the second only gives me the repeated three-beep error tones. I can use the second on my EDF since it only stutters the motor and won't start consistently.

Do I have a bad ESC?

where is the programming card?
nijsie (0 points) 7/7/2009
Hello,

this is in backorder, and i have rdered 1, and some more stuff, are you waitng with the shipping, is have al parts complete? and how long is it gonna take when you have them?

Greetz,
Marco

Program it the way David shows in the reveiw section. It works like a charm. Don't forget to use a 4 cell battery in your receiver, or it won't work at all. It'll just keep beeping.
Håvard (45 points) 6/10/2009
Hey im kinda fucked up. I bought 2 of theese, + 2motors. I connect em and the motors just keep beeeping. The engines wont start. I got no idea about programateing, but is it necesary to programate it to make the engine go..?

you need a BEC to run the receiver or you can solder a small wire from the 5V voltage regulator to the positive rx lead
congo (71 points) 6/9/2009
I just tried this ESC for the first time, it is broken/faulty out of the box!

There is no power to the receiver, even though the esc is beeping.

Disappointed,
Congo

Oops, I'm an nooblidite, didn't realise this unit doesn't power the Rx :P
Lucky I bought a BEC just in case, I'll go try that now.
David (135 points) 5/8/2009
I just added BEC to this controller with a three terminal 5V regulator like a 7805 in the TO-220 case such as:
***********electrokits****/downloads/pdf/7805-datasheet-fairchild.pdf
Just screw the tab to the heatsink with a short sheet metal screw, wire the left (IN) terminal to the batteru incoming red wire, the middle (GND) to the incoming black wire, and the right (OUT) to the small connector's red wire. Add a 150 Mfd cap between ground and the OUT terminal, and it works great!

Is this esc capable of handling 14 volt, 4 cell batteries??????
  Reply:  evan.flatt (7 points);
yes, no programing required from my experience
Ricky (21 points) 4/14/2009
Does this esc have reverse???
  Reply:  Felar Furlong (404 points);
no. this is aircraft esc.
  Reply:  Denise (1 points);
This seams to be a good ESC but I do not have room for another battery to feed the receiver. Is there a way to use this ESC with the one battery. What am I missing here, Do I need another device. Instructions non existant outside this forum. Thanks in advance
  Reply:  evan.flatt (7 points);
You can solder a small wire going from the output lead of the 5v regulator to the positive lead of the rx wire. The 5v regulator is located right above the negative battery lead solder point. And the output of the regulator, is the wire closest to the negative battery lead. I can post pics if you need.

Wait! a way to get a 5v output from this ESC for my RX and servos? Yes please include pictures! :)
