I would like to use this ESC in my next project. A 3d Yak 54 with a wingspan of 1.38 meters. The motor is a Tunigy SK42-40 750 running on 2200 4s lipos. I'm also getting a 3 amp HXT UBEC. Can somebody tell me how to connect the it all? Thanks!

What means "opto only"?
Reply:
ekajoe (8 points);
"Opto" means that you will need a separate BEC or a separate battery to operate your receiver and servos.

I NEED HELP, purchased this for HK450 build + (Turnigy Typhoon 2215H and TURNIGY 3A UBEC w/ Noise Reduction) have everything wired up and I can not get the motor to consistently start and run smooth. Diagnosed with a rimpax 45a esc and motor works and tested ESC + bec combo on another motor and works perfect. How should I program the esc to work with this motor???? I have messed around with the ESC but have not found a winning combo... Brake Setting? Throttle Setting? Timing Mode Setting? Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) Setting?

How to make it work with car?

I find the problem must use a UBEC or an external battery for the reception
scott (1 points) 9/11/2009
just purchased this esc for my f-16 edf. downloaded pdf to program, but all i get is 10 beeps, not the 1-6 as described in manual am i doing something wrong?, or is esc defective

Does This esc work in Helicopters ?
eimix (4 points) 7/31/2009
I have bought this ESC i know it is for plains, it should run with boats.
But what about cars? I have turnigy motor 10T 3300kv 540size it runs very nice with ESC, no heating or other problems.
But it has low torque at low or zero rpms. While car is not moving - and if i push full throttle - motor does not run normaly for some time until it reaches higher rmp.
It seems that ESC does not understand what is going on, and swithes power to next and next and next motor wire, it seems that it does every ~0.2-0.5 seconds at zero rpms (with load).
Almost same behaviour accures then motor shaft is held fixed with hand or pliers and throttle is applied. motor is frisking.
I hope you understand my explanation.
1. Is it normal? 2. Is it possible to change settings of ESC to make it better? 3. Is there any ESC suitible for car applications? (cheap and without reverse)
Mike K (10 points) 7/31/2009
I bought 2 of these a few weeks ago. One I was able to programm without issue but the second only gives me the repeated three-beep error tones. I can use the second on my EDF since it only stutters the motor and won't start consistently.
Do I have a bad ESC?
david (5 points) 7/30/2009
where is the programming card?
this is in backorder, and i have rdered 1, and some more stuff, are you waitng with the shipping, is have al parts complete? and how long is it gonna take when you have them?

Program it the way David shows in the reveiw section. It works like a charm. Don't forget to use a 4 cell battery in your receiver, or it won't work at all. It'll just keep beeping.
Håvard (45 points) 6/10/2009
Hey im kinda fucked up. I bought 2 of theese, + 2motors. I connect em and the motors just keep beeeping. The engines wont start. I got no idea about programateing, but is it necesary to programate it to make the engine go..?

you need a BEC to run the receiver or you can solder a small wire from the 5V voltage regulator to the positive rx lead
David (135 points) 5/8/2009
I just added BEC to this controller with a three terminal 5V regulator like a 7805 in the TO-220 case such as: ***********electrokits****/downloads/pdf/7805-datasheet-fairchild.pdf Just screw the tab to the heatsink with a short sheet metal screw, wire the left (IN) terminal to the batteru incoming red wire, the middle (GND) to the incoming black wire, and the right (OUT) to the small connector's red wire. Add a 150 Mfd cap between ground and the OUT terminal, and it works great!

Is this esc capable of handling 14 volt, 4 cell batteries??????
Reply:
evan.flatt (7 points);
yes, no programing required from my experience
Denise (1 points);
This seams to be a good ESC but I do not have room for another battery to feed the receiver. Is there a way to use this ESC with the one battery. What am I missing here, Do I need another device. Instructions non existant outside this forum. Thanks in advance
evan.flatt (7 points);
You can solder a small wire going from the output lead of the 5v regulator to the positive lead of the rx wire. The 5v regulator is located right above the negative battery lead solder point. And the output of the regulator, is the wire closest to the negative battery lead. I can post pics if you need.
Bought 2, installed 1, and I found complete programming info elsewhere, so now I have it running fine. Do a search for "50 Amp Esc" and you might find the answers as I did. Don't give up until you have located the programming sheet and set it up properly. Also make sure you supply proper control voltage, as it doesn't have BEC. I started with 6V, and it would beep-out complaints, 4.5V seems to work fine. Just in case you don't want to find the programming info, I will see if it fits in this review: 1. TAKE OFF PROP!!! 2. Turn on Rec, ESC, then Xmit with throttle on full, listen to beeps: 3. Musical tone, then 1 beep indicates that battery type can be programmed. This is repeated three times, then same but 2 beeps, then 3 beeps, 4, 5, and 6, all repeated three times, and it starts all over again. When you hear the one you want, go to 1/2 throttle. Here is what they mean: ONE=Battery TWO=Throttle THREE=Brake FOUR=Direction & Cutoff FIVE=Timing SIX=PWM setting 4. Next you select the choice within that option, with beeps coded to say where you are, again each choice is repeated three times, and when you hear the one you want, go back to full throttle, here they are: (Short-Long) 1-1 = NiCd 1-2 = 7 cell LiPo 1-3 = 6 cell LiPo 1-4 = 5 cell LiPo 1-5 = 4 cell LiPo 1-6 = 3 cell LiPo 1-7 = 2 cell LiPo
2-1 = Auto throttle range 2-2 = 1.1ms to 1.8 ms from Recvr 2-3 = Accelerate Fast 2-4 = Accelerate by ramp-up
3-1 = No brake 3-2 = Soft brake 3-3 = Med

Darn, the programming instructions didn't all fit, here is the rest:
5-1 = 2 to 4 pole motors 5-2 = 6 to 8 pole motors 5-3 = 10 to 14 pole outrunner 5-4 = Hi RPM outrunner (I think >20k)
6-1 = 8 kHz PWM for low RPM 6-2 = 16 kHz for outrunners
When done either: A-Go full throttle to select another B-Go low throttle to end and save and you will get a long beep, and "Bob's your uncle"
Next startup will give 2 beeps to confirm all is OK.
If you know more about the diagnostic beep, please share that with everybody, I could not find a list... Thanks

I`ve bought a couple of Mystery helicopter escīs on E-bay and those nutters have no "fu**ing" idea what the are selling,the programming instructions are not even close to reality. I emailed the vendor and the mailed me another set of incorrect programming features. Then i accidentally glansed at your rewiew and it seemed applicable for my two Mystery escīs... And! !it is correct for Mystery 80a and 100a helicopter escīs sold on e-bay. David Bacon has therefore saved me from beating my mystery escīs to death with a sledgehammer. By the way i have tested the suple simple 50a too, and it is a superb device for the money. Instead of buying expesive cars escīs and motor from America, ivībought it all from Hobbycity, for a tenth of the cost, and all my fried tongues are hanging out in amazement

Its a good ESC. I use mine with the HXT BEC. It doesnt get hot at all. Im running mine on a suppomodels 2826-6t motor. It pulls about 45 amps WOT with a 4000 12c pack and a 14x7 true APC prop. I will buy a couple more if they ever stay in stock.

This controller does not work as advertised. The controller will only initialize on up to 4S. On 5S, 6S and 7S, the controller WILL NOT START UP. I've been fighting with HC for a month to get this resolved, but the only solution they will offer is for me to send it back, my expense, and wait while they sort out what to do about this. I can't justify the shipping cost and time wasted (it'll be 8 weeks before I get anything back) to send this back. Don't buy this for 5S+ applications, it doesn't work even though HC claims it will. I've spoken to others with this controller and they confirm it.

I just used this SuperSimple 50A ESC on Multiplex AcroMaster. It has very good response. But, compared to more expensive one (like TURINGY ESC), it needs more resolution to hover my plane. One missing item is its manual. I found its manual on my local(korea) site. Anyway I'm very satisfied with ESC and wating for it to be stocked.

I like the simplicity of this controller. I found the instructions and it works fine. the Throttle cable is short though! So I had to use an extension... So if your receive is a bit far from the esc position... just order a servo extention with it. https://plus40.safe-order.net/slickzero//PDF/Programing_50A_and_above.pdf

Even if it does not come with bec, this speed controller is amazing. Plug and Play , no need to configurate nothing but the brake , and you are ready to fly. to configure brake you just plug the battery with 100% of power on the transmiter, after one beep you move the stick full down , you hear a beep , full up , and a beep again. Unplug battery and you are done.

MARKUS GUTENDORFF I love you too, Man... The 100A "LV" is the same as my original info, but you might find the cell count programming different on the 80 and 100A "HV" controllers. See if this is correct: 80 A "HV" 100A "HV" ESC: 1-1 NiCad 1-2 10 cell 31V cutoff 1-3 9 cell 27V cutoff 1-4 8 cell 24V cutoff 1-5 7 cell 21V cutoff 1-6 6 cell 18V cutoff
There is also an 80A "UHV": 1-1 NiMh & NiCad auto cell count 1-2 12 cell 39V cutoff 1-3 11 cell 33V cutoff 1-4 10 cell 30V cutoff 1-5 9 cell 27V cutoff 1-6 8 cell 24V cutoff
Good luck! I now have both of mine in a Traxxas Villain boat, and it "flys". I couldn't be happier... When funding allows, I will get more, just for spares!

I was a little skeptical when purchased this esc, however I've been using it for 6 months without any kind of complains. Now it is in a 48" foam extra that pulls around 35A and it lands completelly cold. These escs a perfect for those models that you don't want to spent the double in eletronics but still want a good performance.

I have two of these in service. I have used them both at 65amps 600watts (4S A123) constantly for a whole pack. Just tonight I pushed one to 75amps 525watts(3S A123)for a minute or two. It got a little hot but is fine. Time to try the bigger ones I think :-). I didnt notice any cutoff, which is good for because I use A123 cells.

I want to make sure that anyone buying this ESC makes sure this one is OPTO ONLY, which means you will need a seperate UBEC for it to work. I am warning you so you don't buy the ESC but then do not have a UBEC then have to wait even longer. Make sure to plug in the PWM cable from the ESC into the throttle in your rx and be sure to put the red and black wires from your UBEC into the battery port into the rx. I obtained the programming manual by googling it and reading a few posts. Some people have even said that some programming cards work with this ESC but I haven't tried it myself. So far I have been very pleased with this ESC and its reliability and for such price there's nothing to complain. Good quality, great price. Thanks HC

A great speed controller for the money, I wish it had a BEC, I over looked this fact upon purchase, I noticed in the review that this was probable the cause of several peoples frustration. I am no sure what BEC: Opto Only means, the simple word NONE would work for me. (read the fine print)I like the heat sink and with a separate BEC still a great bang for the buck
