FlyCat EDF Foam Jet VERY FAST (kit only)

FlyCat EDF kit
This little kit takes around 4hrs to build and will satisfy the throttle jocky in all of us!
The flycat comes with 56mm EDF and you will need a 25A ESC & 4800kv inrunner.
This plane is extremely fast, (over 100mph!), however still stable at slow flight.

Spec.
WingSpan: 640mm
Length: 800mm
Weight: 290g
BESC : 25A (not included)
Motor: 4800kv 20-30 size Inrunner (not included)
Lipoly: 1300mAh 11.1v 20C (not included)

Required.
Motor & ESC
3 x 9g Servo
5 or 10min Epoxy (Araldite)
1 x Servo Y lead
1 x Servo Extention lead
12AWG Silicon wire (20cm For motor to ESC)
1300mah 11.1v 20C lipo battery
Your own receiver and transmitter

Our flight report.
Kit fits together well, light sanding of leading and trailing edges required to remove extra foam. We chose to not strengthen the wing with CF tubing, which didnt prove to be an issue, even at full speed high G turns.
We opted to mount the BESC being the battery area, in case the battery needed to be moved forward to adjust CofG, however this wasnt necissary.
EDF was mounted on the stink mount. Stick mount was shortened, with the extra piece used to raise the EDF off the stick to clear the EDF shroud. 2 bolts held the fan unit to the stick, one before and one after the fan blades.
First flight.
We kept CofG 9.5cm from the apex of the winds leading edge. The flycat was hand launched at 3/4 throttle, accellerating quickly. To our surprise no trimming was required.
The flycat is an extremely fast kit to fly, and required a lot of elevator in turns. We suggest putting the elevator on maximum throws. It needs HUGE amounts of elevator during turns!
Overall an excellent plane which flys smoothly, even on windy days.
We suggest a good lipo pack, as this little hotty will chew through a 1500mAh in only 5 minutes. We used the ZIPPY-R 1800mAh 22C 3S1P pack for around 8 minute flights. As compared to the ZIPPY-Q pack which brought us short at about 7 minutes.

Whoa, the weight of the plane is 290 grams and the shipping weight is 1395 grams, does it come triple boxed and lead lined? I'm not normally one to have a 'dig' at Hobby King, but that seems over the top.
   Braden (87%)
That is because the weight goes by cubic volume of the box it comes in, the flycat does come well packed and anything else ordered fits easily inside the box, saving a little bit of $$$

So I am wondering about the performance of this bird it must be pretty good if they are always sold out? How does it fly is it stable and how fast is it? what Kind of power plant is everybody useing bateries/motors would love some feed back.
Thank You

i feal it flys like the stryker f27c , but when making turns you need alot more up elevator, it goes way faster in free fall dives,i prefer it over my stryker, i use 4800kv 30amp,2000mh it is little less stable the stryker but faster, little nose heavy with 2000mh, flys well in 15km wind, all i know is it is a good plane

Can anyone tell me the C of G is it close to the 95mm that Hobbykings flight report has or the 150 To 160mm that the so called build instructions - that's a big gap????
   Alan (76%)
I can hardly believe they actualy did a flight reporton it, so well done HK. CG will depend on how you distribute the electrics. It is notoriously hard to calculate on swept back wings so best to stay with HK specs i supose
   plasticbaldy (35%)
95mm would explain the "HUGE amounts of elevator" required in turns he describes. Suggest move the CG back in stages to the 150 - 160 to ensure it doesn't suddenly become unstable.

kalvin (58%)
how fast can this fly in stock?
   JRBeaman (80%)
Depends on motor and esc. Will do about 100 if set up right.

Aero-nuts**** sells airframe and fan only for $40 US. The shipping is only $15. I'm getting one to use as a testbed for motor/fan/battery combos using turnigy components from here.

that's aero-nuts-dot-com without the hyphens

Why are you promoting them, it's only 17 dollars here?

what other web site has this plane 4 sale?
   Destructor (45%)
R2 hobbies has this plane but no EDF with it just a geard brushed motor with a pusher prop. It barely flies with the brushed set up. Put a in runner from a 1/18 car in the EDF (mines a 2500 kv)and a 30 amp speed control it will hussel. I will try to throw a video in the files tab here. See if it works.

Could someone tell me if this aircraft can really fly at 100 mph as it is sold here? On another site, it is listed as flying ato 70-80 mph with upgraded motor. Thanks in advance.
   sidgyal (64%)
no it wont
   JRBeaman (80%)
Upgraded from what?
There is no motor in this kit.
   JRBeaman (80%)
Yes, it will with the correct motor and battery.

Fly Cat
Vuela fantastico, con todo el equipamiento genial y mejor precio imposible, con un poquito de ingenio se monta la turbina y se queda de cine.
Muy recomendable comparado con otros aviones del mismo tipo pero mucho mas caros y menos equipados.

Can shipping be reduced ? cost of shipping to the uk is over 2x the cost of the plane. I would love to buy one but i am not willing to pay 30$ shipping.
   snappy (83%)
If you talk to HK they will increase the price of the plane costs so shipping will appear cheaper!!!!
   bubblebee (-16%)
what material used ? EPO? or EPS ???
   Alan (76%)
Come on snappy, help us out, your the foam expert
   Choppy (27%)
The Flycat I got was EPS. High speed landings should be avoided and keep it light. This is a lesson I learned the hard way. Tails even survived a nose dive but the nose did not fair so well. Ordered a second flycat, at this price its just too much fun*)
