Has anyone tested the V4 with high timing?
Does it still burn or had HK solved the problems?

I received mine 7/15/2010. It works fine on medium timing w/ a Turnigy 50-65 SK 380KV on 8S and a 14.5x14.5 APC. No cogging / loss of timing. I saw online that these are the Hobbywing Platnum HV, and they had a bad run on those the same time these went bad. It seems the manufacturer found an error in the programming, and has since fixed it. I hope all is good, I don't want mine blowing up.

Flew 5 flights this weekend, and no issues! I have to switch to high timing as I did get a minor motor sync issue, but high timing works very well. With 70A peak running through it, it is cool coming down.

Another 4 flights this weekend, only one issue. The ESC got heat soaked from sitting in the summer sun for 2 hours, then when into thermal shutdown when I tried to fly. I had to move the ESC into better airflow, and it worked perfectly again. I have had no more timing issues on the Turnigy 50-65 380kv on 8S. Great ESC and seems the issues are worked out. Trust me, I was worried.

Hi, I normaly use 2S Life packs to power my recievers. Will the life charged pack with 7.2V be a problem when used with this Sentilion ESC?

There should be no problem powering your receiver as long as you do not go over voltage of the RX. I wouldn't try 7.2V on this ESC, but I thought the LiFe / A123 packs are 6.6 max voltage? If you are using the LiFe / A123 packs, I wouldn't worry about it.

The ESC seems much modified to the original, mine have 3 input capacitors, not the two i'm used to. The FETs are now metal cased and the board is not fully populated, which suggests better quality. Havent tried it on the LED style programming board, but the PCB boards have HW on them, and it looks very similar to my k-force 120HV. I'd dare to suggest they are made in that factory. No spark arrestfly-lead on these though, so I will have to fit my own. 1500uF in total, same as 120 kforce, which HAS got the resistor on

Hi! I also fly with the 63-64 Turnigy and i had to use sub-trim and end-point adjustments to get mine to function properly, after that it works fine. To get the card to function you must first disconnect the receiver-cable. Let the motor be connected to the ESC. Then connect a receiver battery (4.8-6v) to "BATT" on the card. Then you connect the main power pack to the ESC (Lipo) Now the card should light up. Then you just cycle through the setup and adjust to the settings you want, and confirm your settings with "OK" After the blue LED has stopped flashing, the new settings have been stored and you can remove the programming card. Hope this helps.

Update: I removed the Sentilon 100A HV from my and installed a Castle 85HV, and all 'misfiring' / mis-sync issues went away. So its not my motor, battery etc. Its the Sentilon. That said, I check with two of my other heli buddies also using Sentilons, and they said they didn't have any issues. So my unit could be a dud. How do I send this back for repair / replacement?

Sync loss is common on larger motors. I've experienced it, and beaten it with several set-ups simply by advancing the timing. Try "Medium" or "High" timing and you will nearly always find the problem goes away. This fix is a lot cheaper than a Castle 85HV!

Had a few flights with this ESC on my Trex600 8s1p and Z-Power 780kv outrunner. Soft start isn't soft at all. Also having some bad sync issues when throttling up, especially around mid throttle. I've tried it on Mid and High timing, with Mid timing giving more 'misfires'. Will try Low timing today. Good thing is it doesn't shut down when doing this - only loses power for an instant - so my bird remains flying. Can't say I'm not disappointed. This is not a plug and play ESC as advertised.

Using this ESC with 12S and a large outrunner, it won't correctly start up. I tried adding larger capacitors (1000uF instead of 470uF), shorten cables etc. without success. When setting the throttle to a little amount, it will not start rotating, but zaps around and pumps too much current in the motor (stop immediately when you see this, it will burn up your motor!) To start it up, I had to give about 40-50% throttle for a short time, which spins it up correctly most of time. I had to program about 7% throttle delay to avoid sync loss when kicking full throttle. I tried out all settings for low mid and high timing. With 10S LiPo, the Sentilon worked correctly, no complaints. I replaced it with a Castle 85HV - which starts up as smooth as a baby, no sync losses whatever I do with the thottle stick, about 12% less current for same RPM **- but it costs twice as much. As always: You get what you pay for...

I have a Sentilon 100HV unit version 3.1 (the old one) with a Turnigy 64-63 230kv motor. My Funtana 2x2 died yesterday due to a lost sync between ESC and motor in a torque roll maniouver. Sorry to hear of your loss. Even after years of seeing many aircraft crashes it still gets to me. No matter how good or bad the plane may be. Now for some info, I run the Turnigy 63-64 B on a Sentilon 100HV spinning a Turnigy 20x10. No sync loss although on my Sebart Sukhoi 140 I rarely get to 3/4 throttle and hovers around 1/2.

Found out that this is a stability problem. Too long and thin wires, too small capacities... After shortening the wires from battery to ESC, and taking thicker ones, plus adding some capacitors (1000uF / 50V), it worked. Much less sync loss risk! I've found out that the start up behavior of the motor is directly linked to potential sync loss. If it starts up with shaking and screaming only, you risk to have sync loss during flight. The opposite needs to be checked (smooth startup, no sync loss - I'm not sure about this!)

Hi Hugo It has two 470uF 50v capacitors. Quick question.. Why would you buy the HV controller at $100 when you plan on running 4s? Why not buy the 2s-6s 100 amp version at $65 instead?
Mine works fine on 10 cell. I haven't tried it out yet on 12 cell. Still have to actually fly a plane with it installed as well, but the bench tests are looking good. The high timing mode seems to apply to motors over 50 mm in diameter. My 50-65 worked fine with it on default timing on 8 cell. When I tested a towerpro 235kv 5330 on 10s with it, I got the weird funky screeching noises at 1/2 throttle. High timing took care of it, & but also increased the amp draw. Increasing the pulse width modulation (PWM) brought the amps back down some.

Sharik is exactly right! If you use this esc with anything smaller than 5s the red led will be blinking and nothing else happens. -> Lipo Cells: 5-12

You have to keep the throttle full and connect the battery to the ESC then when you hear 2 beep's release the throttle and you're ready. Depending on your engine to regulate the timing. search. Rui Viana

WARNING: For some large motors, you must use ''High'' timing mode. Failure to do so will result in a burnt esc.
what is a "large" motor? How do we know which ones are safe?

francis, You don't need a high voltage ESC for a KB45 motor. Any more then 6S LiPo will cook this motor and it can't use the HV type of ESC. I even milled extra air vents into the front and back plates of these motors and they still run hot even on 5S. Have a look at ETTI ESCs on eBay and you will find that they are good for racing even. I used to use Castle Creations Hydra 240A ESCs for these motors but I am not sure what Amps they draw under load. Now I only use Neu, Lehner, Plettenburg motors for racing due to the power and the fact that they outlast numerous of the cheaper motors. For restricted class I use Aqua Craft motors because of the high torque and lasting ability of a cheaper motor. You state that you want an air cooling system for a cat. but what happens when you finally flip the boat? We do bring in some good Chinese ESCs that we attach a water cooling sink to (also use thermal grease) plus we attach a 35mm computer fan on top of this to keep things cool. With the wires to the ESC, I try to match the colors but if the motor goes in reverse I change the 2 other than the red wire. Hope this helps.

Just plug the motor wires in, if it spins the wrong way, switch TWO of the wires.
air cooling usually works, just place it in an area of your aircraft that has lots of air moving through it.

Plugging the 3 motor cables in incorrectly will not damage anything. If it is wrong, the motor will just spin in reverse. If this happens switch two wires around and it will go forwards.
Water-cooling would probably be best for a boat.

Remove the heatsink and fabricate a water cooling plate (aluminum - around 5-6mm thick) to replace it. That's what I did.

It's of no importance: just connect them. If you see the motor is turning the wrong way, you switch 2 of the three wires.
