To HK, do you think that can be any upgrade of sofware of this (or/and others turnigy esc) to be able to use with brushed motors? like Castle Creations do with Mambas for example?

Hiya, are speed controllers such as this one OK to use just as a BEC?? I'm thinking of using without a motor on a Multiplex Fox mini Glider with elevator and aileron controls ( HXT500 servos ) and a small 2s Lipo for power. Thanks in advance, Paul

Should work as such. But why not a ***********hobbycity****/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4319&Product_Name=TURNIGY_3A_UBEC_w/_Noise_Reduction
instead. A dedicated BEC only 1.5gr more then the speed controller but much more powerful?

Hi Paul, I use this controller in a Fox conversion with the 5g BL. It works great with two servos, one for the ailerons and one for elev. I am not using the HXT500 servos though, but from the tech data it shoul dbe ok. Hope that helps, Juergen

Of course you can use it only as a BEC. Just solder the motor cables.

It is possible... but is a separate BEC no better option to save some weight?

Yes they are. There is a linear voltage regulator on the ESC that is independent of the ESC functionality. Besides wasted weight there is nothing wrong with only using it as BEC.

Yes, this ESC would be a good combination for that motor and servo's. Don't let the 0.8A BEC fool you into thinking there isn't enough amps.
I'm using this ESC on 2S with the 18-11 motor, 2 x Turnigy 1440A servo's and the HK-T6A receiver. No issues with the BEC nor is there any heat on the ESC. Go for it!

should be fine as long as you don't over prop the motor.with 4 or 5 inch props it draws under 4amps
i'm using mine with 3 2.5 gram servos sold here and all works great.

Yes it can but the max engine current might get close to the limit of the ESC. Eventuall strip the shrink tube for better cooling of the three FETs (SO8 case). The two micro servos plus receiver are no problem for the BEC.

Does this controller come w/ a mini-JST plug presoldered?

Steve

No, it has bare wire on both the battery and motor sides. The included battery side wires are HUGE for a 6A esc and can be replaced easily to save some weight. I also shortened the rather long RX wire and the result was about 4.5 gram total weight. This controller is great* if they would just get more in stock.

Okay, guys ** watch yersef when you go to use this ESC with high KV motors, like 2000 and above. The spec calls for some high revving capability, but the control seems to lose sync at high speeds and can't even get some motors to start spinning. I used a Hextronic 1811-2000 (product ID 5358) on 2S and it was okay* under 3S the motor won't spin right. I tried it with some other motors and got similarly flakey results.
The 8A Super Simple (ID=6455) is far better at syncing high revvers.

I run this ESC on a Turnigy 1230 Mini gearbox system 4500kv and I do not have problems with sync loss. But it can be hard to start sometimes, it cogs and then I have to spin the propeller a little bit.

Yeah, I have suffered problems with some of the Turnigy stiff cogging motors no matter what ESC I use, but this particular ESC seems to be more susceptible to these errors than others I have tried. Perhaps some farting about with the timing will prove helpful...maybe later.
