Anyone looking to really push this motor should look at the 42-50-650 SK.
It uses about 10-15amps less (about60-65) than the 42-50-700 on 5S 14 x 8.5 apc. I have been running this motor with great success and have built three other planes for friends with the same power set-up. Remember to fly with common sence and not keep the motor pinned , remember to give it a break to cool down the odd time. I fly at 1/2 to 2/3 throttle with full throttle uplines and get 10-12 min.

I always run with my throttle trimmed up alittle bit to keep the motor running, giving quick throttle response from start with no stutter. . No problem after that. Over 70 flight on 5s 5000 at about 1260 watts. Nice motor

Just got this motor, set it all up (with a Hextronik HXT80 and a Zippy 2200 4S 14.8v). opening up the throttle a bit causes it to run rough and vibrate for a short time, until throttle is increased (say up past 25%), then it runs smoothly. This ONLY happens on start up, and for a short period... Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

tried all 3 settings (I believe it should be the 12 pole and for outrunner motors setting. Brake is off, cutoff is soft... After reading about loose magnets, could this be the problem of roughness/vibration on startup? Thanks!

Wasn't the motor at all, it was the esc that was faulty. motor runs great with new ESC...

I purchased this motor and it ran well during ground tests.Prior to the first flight, during a engine runup, 4 magnets came loose inside the motor causing a screaching noise. I have shippped it back to hobbycity for a replacement(RMA #7985-290367)... it was almost a total waste since the shipping was nearly as much as the cost of the motor! It would have been nice if hobbycity could accept a e-mail photo to verify the Defect instead of me having to spend the money to ship it back only to realize the motor is truly defective. I will report back when the new motor arrives...we shall see!

What would be a good ESC (that also powers Servos) for this motor?
  Reply:  Dash8 (72 points);
Got a HXT 80a for this, figured I'd be more than safe with it!

What kind of ESC and battery would work best for this motor?
Al (2 points) 6/9/2009
One of our four threw magnets tonight just running up on the ground.

ALL THREE of our larger 50-65's threw their magnets and are now useless paperweights. definitely a problem with some of these motors.

Hi, Peter from Australia, i purchased three of these motors, two of them did the same as David (4/21/09) motors seized due to magnets coming loose. Not game to use the third one, but all other products I have purchased, no problems at all and all at a fantastic price.

Hi Peter,
I originally tried to glue the magnets per Dragevo's recommendations, but after the repair, the motor was still inoperative. Some other customer rebuilt his loose magnets and they subsequently came loose again! So I packed mine up and returned it to Hobby King for replacement under warranty. All my other Turnigy brushless outrunner motors have never given me any trouble so the loose magnets may be limited to the 4250-700 motor.

Circumf
Dragevo (220 points) 4/22/2009
I suggest medium CA, clean bell & magnets with thinner or equiv. - before installing. To find the correct space you need to know the bell-circumference & the width of all the magnets combined. Next, subtract 'magnet-width number' from circumference number. Then, divide this number by # of gaps/space. Use a piece of ply, sheet metal etc, of the correct thickness - to keep the distance while the glue cures. If in doubt, post a Q in the forum - I or someone else will help you further. GL. : )

Dragevo (220 points) 4/21/2009
CA glue would be OK.

Thanks for your reply. I do have two questions however:
1. What grade of CYA glue (instant/medium/heavy)should I use?
2. How do I install the magnets with the correct equal space
between them (overcome their attraction to each other)

My Turnigy C4250-700 ran fine for about 2 flights and then died. Disassembly revealed that all the magnets were loose. Same story in other discussion so
it appears that this is a quality control issue. Although it is still under warranty, the cost of returning it is high enough that I would like to repair it by reinstalling the magnets. What is the procedure for doing this and what adhesive should be used? Appreciate any advice.

Very dissapointed. On 4s Hex 4000mah with Turnigy 60A ESC, only generates 368 Watts at 23.6 Amps with a 11*6JXF Wooden Prop. Flew my 40 size trainer well for 5 flights at average flight time of 8 min. During sixth flight during take off the motor siezed completely and loosened a number of magnets. Obviously a problem with either the workmanship or quality of the glue used. Note sure if it is worth sending back to Hobby King due to shipping charge

I recently bought 3 of these motors and had the same problem with 2 of them: they just seized. they were replaced by unitedhobbies but it cost me 2x $8.00 of postage... Nevertheless, I have equiped 3 planes with the 42-50 700kv and they are normally very good. I run them with 4400mah 4s, 60a esc and 13x8 props with average flying time of 18 minutes and around 580 watts.

As far as cell counts, I've gotten 70 or more flights with mine running on 5 cell with an 11x8 prop, 41 amps, 710 watts. Granted, I bought mine back when it was labeled under the HXT name, but it's the same motor. I tested mine under no load with a tach & came up with that it was actually 670KV. I've pushed it pretty hard & haven't had a failure yet. I have tried a 6 cell combination with it using a 10x7 prop, (38 amps, 790 watts) but I'm pretty sure the bearings didn't like the really high RPM that it was producing, it made a unpleasant sound. With a 10x8 on 6 cell it was in the range of getting hot enough that you could start to smell the windings in the motor.

Personally I ignore the watt ratings of the motor, & just pay attention to the max amps it can handle. Amps are amps whether you're pushing 720 watts on 5 cell or 800 watts on 6 cell.

Yes Frank. It will be:
1) Original rotor-side adaptor + X-mount + bolts set

2) Stator-side adaptor

and even beter
***********hobbycity****/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5673&Product_Name=Shaft_adapter_to_suit_5.0mm_motor_shaft_(collet)
But remember - in #1) set, four black bolts are trash. We allways must to replace them with straight ones. Moreover, it is very advisable to trim bolt-head-hollows in the adaptors body to flat bottoms and slightly expand their diameters for bolt-heads.

Is it possible to buy a new prop adaptor for this motor, mine is slightly kinked

What are the outer dimensions. Is the motor diameter 42 mm with a length of 50mm?

Recently I bought 2 of these. Both motors came equipped with connectors as shown in the picture but they are unknown to me. What kind of male/females should I buy to connect them to their ESC's?

Please remove my stupid question. Never realised that those connectors were both male + female. Sorry!

im using 4s ?

Doug, I've run mine on a 13 x 6 and 4s (3250 mah) and after a few seconds the readings on my e-logger were 15v, 36.5A and 8,900 rpm. So pretty close to the quoted max efficiency current. I'd rate the motor more equivalent to a 52-60 four stroke than a 32 two stroke.

Hi, Peter from Australia, i am using this motor in both an Ultra Stik and Diamonte with a 3s 4900, 13x6.5 prop pulling 35 amps and the Ultra Stik goes vertical - good combo
Bigglesfliesund (373 points)
i was thinking of a 12x6 apc
  Reply:  flyer88 (362 points);
I have been running one in my Yak with a 5s 5000mah producing 1260 watts at 70 amps peak (static) Keep in mind that your values will change in the air and reduce by about 10-15%.
This motor pulls my Yak around for 10 min with SICK verticle. Gauranteed no BS. Flyer88

I forgot to tell you what prop. I'm runing a 14 x 8 APC with no problems.
