So if plug a 3s or 4s battery into this charger and set to 2amp charge, it charges at 2amps, but if I plug in 2x 2s batteries and set to 2amp charge does that mean each battery gets 1amp. What if I set to 0.5amp charge, does each battery get .25amp charge?

yflihi (8 points);
No, it doesn't work with mains input. And when charging two 2s packs at the 2A setting, both packs get 2A each. It actually charges each cell individually at the selected current.

I don't understand how the Serial button works I have received a new charger today, have tried It out when I press the serial button It seem,s to be a momentary action switch there no In or out position how does one know when it's serial or Parallel? I'm confused.
This charger can charge 2x 2S lipo in the same time it would use on just one 2S?

Hi Guys, I bought a ZIPPY Flightmax 180mAh 2S 15C battery. And I have a HX8080 hexTronik Balancer/Charger, with minimal 0.5A charger current. How can I charge this battery with this charger, if I do not want to charge more than 1C (0.18A) current? I do not want to breakdown my new battery... Thanks, Endre

I have this charger and need to know how you can tell if it is charging in parallel or series? I use it to charge 7.4V LiPolys (2) at a time. I have brand new batteries that have only been charged once with this charger and I tried charging them last night and the 2 cells are not charged at the same. One cell is at 8.14 V and the other is at 4.13V (center pin). I measured the voltage coming out of the charger too and this voltage difference was found to be the same. Anyone know whats up? Is it trying to charge in Series?
Reply:
helikaren (22 points);
It's charging in parallel. You're measuring off the wrong pins. You need to measure pins 1 & 2 then 2& 3 then 3 &4 rather than 1 &2 and 1&3 which you are doing.

Need help. I have a wall adaptor that has a cigarette plug output. At work today I plugged (2) 7.4v 2S 4000mah lipos in and set them for 2.0A charge rate. After my full 8 hour day my lipos were only reading 7.0v and 6.9v. When I got home they only lasted 7-10 minutes. It was like the charger never did anything. Can someone please explain? Also what is the "serial" button on the front of the charger for? It doesn't say anything in the Manual. Thanks, Joe. Email is joeyhatch11*yahoo**** if anyone wants to write me a long email to explain what I'm doing wrong. Thanks again.

What is the output of your wall adapter?
Beaufighter (755 points);
Yout wall adapter is probably way too small... It will need to supply a current of about 5A (60W) be usefull for allmost any charger.
Serial is for serial charge, unlike parallell. If set to serial, it will treat all connected as one (the total voltage of all connected will be charged), if set to parallell it will charge each cell separately with 4.2V. Parallell is usually the best choice...

Suggest checking fuse first and if OK then check outputs using multimeter. Had one for 12 months+ and it works fine. Good luck JohnW

This unit looks quite similar to the Turnigy 420 Balancer/Charger 2S~4S ($23.95).
Same dimensions. Dimensions: 133X83X35mm (same enough)
Difference is that Turnigy has the % readout. I wonder if one is a knockoffs of the other, or are they the same internally made by the same OEM manufacturer?
Has anyone made a comparison internally?
Reply:
Beaufighter (755 points);
Turnigy and HXT IS the same, so no knockoff. Same charger, but the Turnigy has a status diplay.

Only recently had need to try the "SERIES Charging", (ie just using the "Deans" connector & not through the "balance connector".) Seems to charge with no difference if the "Series" button is pressed or not. The info in the manual speaks of (special??)adaptors for series charging charging. All I did was make a lead with a balance connector to plug into the charger, & the pos. & neg. from this to the "Deans" male. ANYONE WITH EXPERIENCE OF THIS NO DIFFERENCE AS TO THE "SERIES' BUTTON BEING PRESSED? OK, it worked but the "Series" button would not have been include for no reason. JH 26-09-08

Can I charge a Rhino 1350mAh 3S 11.1v 25C Lipoly Pack with this charger ?
Jason (2 points)
If i plug a 3S 1000mAh Zippy battery in and 1 and 3 are red but the 2 stays green what does that mean?? Is this a bad cell. The battery is new and never charged before.
Unplug everything. Plug power into the charger. Wait a few seconds. Plug in the battery. If it still won't charge one cell, jiggle the connection - I've noticed loose pins on some balance leads. Then try another battery - if the failure persists the charger is bad. Also use a voltmeter to measure the individual cells on the suspect battery - perhaps one cell is bad.

WILL THIS CHARGER CHARGE A 4000mah 4S PACK OK? AND IF SO HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
Reply:
EugeneBee (50 points);
To be without problems, but being fully charged with a current 2A will take approximately 1.5 hours. Please note that this charger needs a source of nurturing DC 9-15V at least 2A.

Just checked out the UH website. They have a new product on offer by which I think one should be able to connect a TP battery to the Hextronic charger. I will certainly purchase this product. iMAX-FP-TP iMAX FP & TP Plug Adapter.

Will it directlly charge a Thuder Power battery or is a adaptor cable required? If so, then which one?
Reply:
Maniac20 (5 points);
It will not fit directly with the TP batteries. The charger will fit JST-XH connectors* those found on LoongMax and HXT batteries.
I bought this charger a year ago and it really brought me to the world of LiPo.
Charger uses natural balancing method. It has four semi-independent channels and every cell is charged separately - if the cell is fully charged, channel is switched off and relevant LED changes light from red to green. The pack is fully balanced when all cells are charged. If some cell is damaged and cannot be charged, current is cut off and relevant LED stars to blink (at least it should - fortunately I do not have damaged cell yet).
You can charge two 2s pack at the same time and even more - you can charge packs with different capacity. Just don't forget to set current according to pack with smaller capacity. Sometimes I charge 2S1100 in one slot with 2s1800 in second. I suppose it can charge even single cells of different capacity combined together with some kind of adapter, this could be interesting for people flying with very small one cell planes (but only 500mAh and more if you follow safety recommendation, because minimum charging current is 0.5A). And opposite - individual handling of every cell gives you possibility to charge easily packs of five or more cells in two or more steps.
Charger can also load packs without balancer connector and it still monitors charging. I built one 2-cell pack without balancer connector (I had none at that moment). Pack became unbalaced after sixth cycle (3.48 and 3.50 before charge, but 4.13 and 4.18 after charge), charger somehow detected it i

I had a problem that my battery packs (HXT-D9-2200mAh 3S 20-30C) started to get out of balance more and more. I could not get the "perfect balance". I found a way of balancing the packs closer to "perfect balance" with this charger. When all LED's are green (finished charging), I unplug the pack and plug it back in. [Other balance chargers I tried this with, does nothing and just switch the LED's back green] I even did this a third time on one pack. The final voltage also increased with 0,1 or 0,2 V. On th "noisy fan": it is a normal PC type fan. Take out fan, lift sticker in the center of the fan to open the bearing. Add a drop of fine machine oil. Close sticker and replace fan.

Great charger and it's also very cheap. Please look at my blog about it at the address : http://myhobbycity.com/blog.php?b=150
I really love this charger. The concept of KISS ( Keep It Simple Stupid ) is 100% there with that product!
The build quality is very good, all aluminium. Charging is sort of very simple and stupid proof. It was a 5Amp car fuse on the back. It has rubber feet on the bottom. Some solid silkscreen/sticker on top. It is bullet proof!
When you plug a 3 cell into the charger, 3 RED led will glow and then after it is finish, it will turn to GREEN.
If there is a bad cell, the specific LED will flash from RED to GREEN.
You can charge battery using what they call "parallel" charging. So you charge your 3 cell with only 2 wire at 11.8V instead of 3 time 3.7V. You need special plug to do that.
The fans does make noise. It is not that bad but it makes noise.
The only thing that I don't like is the 12V car adapter. I don't want to cut it and will need to make my own socket.
After charging my 4 cell battery. I had 4.181V 4.203V 4.199V 4.184V
my other battery was 4.196V 4.209V 4.207V 4.180V
I highly recommend this charger!
Have fun!

It's a good and really easy to use charger. Just plug&charge. 4 insulated channel with a trimmer to set the charge voltage. End charge voltage were 3 times 4.18volts and channel 3 was 4.15V but it's OK. Supplied with cigar lighter plug. Electronic is very well made 105°C capacitor. Solder has been cleaned. 100% reliable. You can charge 4 cell at a time and select from 0.5 to 2A current for all cell. You can charge 2 x 2cells at one time. Fan made some noise but it's OK. Price is low and product is very good!!!

I just received my charger and a few new batteries. I am very pleased with the results I had so far. My charger does not charge to the full 4,2 V (only 4,16 V) but that is good for the battery life. I will put it to the test on some of my unbalanced packs. It can exceed the 2 A charge rate (by itself) without any problems so far. I charged a new pack and it started at 2,8 A with just as good end results.

Smaller charge capacity
Emiliano Calderon
|
Some months ago I bought one this charger and I am fully satisfied. But, I just accomplished a load test with e-meeter and I was surprised with big differences at the charge capacity When the switch is in: 500mA - real Load of 240mA 1000mA - real Load of 680mA 1500mA - real Load of 1040mA 2000mA - real Load of 1,205mA
Like this, the real charge capacity is smaller than specified. I can be carried, like this, batteries of small capacity and also to increase the charge amperage for faster battery charge without risk of damages.

I've been using this charger for 6 months and have had no issues with it. It works great on my 3-cell lipos and peaks them out to about 12.4V. Each cell is within .02V of each other. The variable amp rate is good for charging different size batteries.

I've had this for a while now. I've got a Triton as well.
While I fly enough to use both chargers, I make sure my batteries get charged by this charger at least once every 5 charges. This makes sure all my batteries get matched.
My batteries are in great condition because of this charger.

This charger is easily to operate and its size & light weight makes me convenient to bring to fly field. I used this unit to charge my 3S lipo pack,11.1V with 1800Amh , after full charged the battery only reached to 12.4V (4.13 each) instead of 12.6V, nevertheless it was still acceptable. However, the balancer worked fine, After balanced my 2nd lipo pack,11.1V 2200Amh, Before~ [1st-4.06 2nd-4.01 3rd-4.05] after 1st-4.13 2nd-4.12 & 3rd-4.13. Thank you for this charger.

Best value for money charger and balancer by miles. This charger is sold in several guises around the world sometimes costing 4 times as much for the same thing. At only 2 Amps max output, this device might not suit the high power merchants who want to blast cells on the flying field in minutes but certainly suits the average club flyers who can wait an hour or so for a 2000mA pack to charge at 1C. The JST HX outlets match Hextronik packs as expected. I have charged cells without a balancer plug fitted, using the comprehensive instructions included. My 2 chargers have been totally reliable, operation being automatic on connection (except charge rate set on manual switch)with no fiddly buttons or complicated displays to interpret.

Had a homebuilt charger before. Bought this one and some LiPol packs. Charged them and it showed that one cell was not fully charges after 30 minutes. So i thought it was the charger, and i measured every single cell and it showed that it was lower in voltage (0.15 Volt) in one cell. So i continued charging and after all LEDs were green the voltage was perfect for all cells apox 4.18V. Have charged several times and it work grate. The drawback is no fancy LCD display and only 2 Amps. But for the price You can't expect that. It is worth everything. Or as we in Sweden say "Värd varenda krona". Bought it with EMS freight had it home after less than a week with handling, packing and shipping. Bought some stuff from Sweden at same time arrived only one day faster

This is a top li'll unit. I have two. It will charge and balance one or two two cell packs, one three cell pac or one four cell pac. The charge rate can be adjusted in increments of 500 ma from a base of 500 ma up to a maximum of 2,000 ma. The leds turn red and indicate the number of cells being charged/balanced and these leds individually turn green as the individual cells are fully charged/balanced. The only thing missing is an information screen which would be nice, but what can you expect for US$29.00? Excellent value...

I was considering purchasing another more expensive charger but this unit had all the features and a fraction of the cost. Charger is reliable and well assembled, with instructions that don't require a degree in linguistics to comprehend. Add this to the outstanding service provided by United and there's a tick in every box.
