I was thinking charging * .3 amps. Do you charge to 11.7v? I think a heat sensor would be best, but can not find one for this unit. Has any one else found a heat sensor for the HobbyKing Quattro 4x6S Lithium Polymer Multi Charger?

How regulated does the voltage of the powersource need to be and what is the maximum voltage someone has connected? I have a 500VA 2x12V toroid-transformer equipped with full-wave rectification and reservoir capacitor of 20000uF that I would like to use. Sadly this device gives out 17V without load and I have not dared to attach the charger to it due to the 15V specification. In the instructions though 18V is mentioned at one place but that could be a typo...
   stivi112233 (100%)
When the voltage is to hight you get an Error.
I trie 19 Volt and get an error

How does this charger compare to the Hyperion 0720i?
   khaled (72%)
can i just use the build in balance or do i have to use Balance board?
and if i can do that and i am charging 3s, How do i insert the balance tap ? from right to left? black wire on the fare right and i guess the red on the middle? or vice versa? thanks
   McMaxicus (72%)
If you have 4 batteries or more it will be much faster to balance-charge them all by Quattro. 4 ports instead of 1 in Hyperion 0720i. But these ports are only 50W each, Hyperion has 250W.
   wrxnfx (43%)
After owning a Hyperion Duo, Duratrax ICE, Electrifly Triton 1 & 2, Venom Pro Charger, iCharger 106B, and Turnigy Accucell-6, I would say that the Quattro does the job just as good. Can't really say from a technical aspect in terms of accuracy because I've never metered them separately, but I've never had a problem with the Accucell-6 or the Quattro, yet. These Hong Kong chargers are pretty good. I really think a lot of the other name branded ones that I've owned are really the same circuitry and software with just different packaging and a high market because of the brand.

what am I missing?
Why is HK stocking this charger when your Turnigy 4X6S 4 ports is a way better product?
   waynemia (74%)
Check out the fact that this one can balance charge on alll four ports but the Turnigy can't.
   trevpez (74%)
The only way my quattro will balance properly is by using .my seperate megapower balancers with it.
When using just quattro up to 0.08v diferance between cells
   kevinb120 (70%)
As for both of the new quad chargers, why not make a true 6A+ capable 2-port unit for $79? I'd rather charge two fast then 4 slowly, you could always double up pairs of 2 or 3s packs with an adapter. It would take a ton of power in one unit to charge 4 hi-cap 4S+ cells anyway. Id rather buy two dual chargers then a compromised 4 unit version.
9/05/2010
trevpez (74%)
When charging lipos new or old 2s & 3s in balance mode, 1 cell never reaches full volume.
Charger reads 4.20v per cell but when tested with seperate acurate means[MKS PRO and on multimeter] 1 cell usually the middle one reads 4.12v.It doesn't want to charge all cells to capacity.Any one else had this problem?

Do I have to buy anything else, to connect all four R1350-30-3 AT THE SAME TIME ?

Is this the best choice for a charger or is there a better choice?

You must connect the USB adaptator on temp. sensor port and set in menu "ENABLE USB". You don't use temp. and USB at same time. You can use "ChargeMonitor" or "logview" pc software.

I cannot get the balance ports to work. I have tried every programming combination and LiPo configuration I can think of and I still get the error message "Connection Break". The banana plug outputs work fine. Is it me or is this charger bad??
Thank you.
   Gofly1 (96%)
OK, OK, Before you all start to feel sorry for my lack of intelligence, I JUST FIGURED IT OUT. For those of us that need instructions, you can download and print them from the FILES tab above. Boy, what a simple picture will do for someone like me... You have to plug in the power side of the battery leads AND the balance lead. WahLah.
   autorail1 (72%)
BUT, Does that actual charge and Balance, So I will need 4 Additional bananna plugs to use all 4 ports??
   TieffliegerRudi (71%)
Steckt das Balancerkabel richtig? Der Minuspol am ersten Pin ?
   wrxnfx (43%)
Make sure your connections for the balance plugs are correct and good. The built-in ports are for JST XH/Zippy balance plugs. Connection Break is definitely a sign that something either isn't connected or the charger may have bad soldering internally. Try balancing on different ports, if all have the same error message, I would side more with you lead connections not being of the correct type rather than a problem with the charger.

I'm planning to get this one for my flightmax & turnigy lipos 3-5s, I just want to ask if what connectors do I need and does it come with wall charger? If not what is the compatible one? Thanks!
   wskelly99 (32%)
It does not come with an AC wall charger. You will need a fairly large one too. HK was out of stock on their 25A power supply, so I ordered a Team Checkpoint supply from Tower Hobbies. Just make sure you get at least a 20 amp supply.
   Robert (50%)
You see the battery ballance connectors with the charger purchace 3 more, depending on what type lipo ballance leads you have on the batterys
   wrxnfx (43%)
The Flightmax balance plugs fit straight into the charger. If you buy the balance plugs, it's more of an extension rather than a necessity. Just make sure your polarity is correct when plugging in. I believe the Turnigy batteries are the same, but I will have to wait until they arrive before I can confirm.

I get this "BATTERY VOL ERR CELL CONNECT" message when trying to charge my A123 LiFe S2 6.6V pack?

The message indicated "Wrong connection of the connector detected* please check the connector and cable".

I use the XH adapter that came with it and was the only one that fit the plug of my A123 cell pack. But I had to plug my A123 S2 pack into the S4 slot because it was the only one that could fit. Which other adapter can I order that will work with my A123 S2 6.6V?

T3rry (1%)
OK, so i have 4 lipo batteries 2s2p at 5000mah (chargeable at 2c) if i hook up all 4, what amp rating will each charge at?
   cferrell (29%)
Each charger is 50W, and you have 4 of them, for 200W total. For a 2s pack at 5,000 mah, P=IV gives you 5 amp charge (1c = 1 hour charge) * 7.4 V (nom) = 37 Watts. If the charger can pusher higher than 1c, you can charge a little faster (1.3c or so). You'd need a higher current charger to get to 2c charging, which gets you to about 30 mins charge time (assuming a fully discharged pack, which isn't true). Overall, it doesn't matter if you are charging 1 pack or 4, you'll get them charged up at the same time in an hour or less. Make sure your DC PS good and solid - a POS PS will cause issues.

Is there a TP/FP balance board available separately? If one is included with the charger, I would like to be able to order 3 additional ones so I can charge 4 TP packs at once. I'm only able to find a XH balance board for this charger. And one additional question, what type of plug is on the charger? Can a XH type plug go directly into the charger without use of a balance board?
   vasy1 (56%)
maybe try this: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8822&Product_Name=TP_Adapter_Coversion_Board_W/_Polyquest_Charger_plug
for $1 with your next order you can take a risk, from picture looks like it would work, i could be wrong though.

Hello, can someone tell me if this charger can handle a common ground system, I run multiple A123's in a large plane with fromeco switches. I know the ion cube can handle this secaniro but I hate the thing. Thanks...
   Hady Esta (49%)
dear david
i am also running A123 on large scale and this charger seems interesting as i can charge all the battery's at once but i am not satisfied with the 4.5 amp i need a 10 amp charger as A123 can be charged 10 times their capacity i wish it was a 10 amp charger .
for your question and depending on all the reviews i have read , use each battery separately for charging and always charge your battery outside your model for safety in case of explosion due to overcharge or defect

this charger is a great solution for you if you want to use it as 5 amp max

Charge power is spec-ed at 50W.
Is that shared among the 4 ports?
Or is each port limited to 50W max?
So the max total charge power is 200W if 4 ports are used at the same time?

It is 50W per port, so 200W total.

   vasy1 (56%)
You seem to need 3 more balance boards http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10360, too bad batteries do not just plug directly into the charger also the number of pig-tails sucks, I suppose one will have to buy 3 of this if they don't want to solder: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6697
   express315 (79%)
If you do not want to solder, there is two solutions - whether stay away from electrics or
prepare to spend some more cash.
This is a good charger, 50W per port. It will really shine with 2-3 cell packs lipo/life.
It will take too long to charge anything bigger.
What impressed me when I opened the box was that
it looks better then some expensive chargers. Also the box and the packaging were of a really good quality. I have not seen it from HK before.
   hyperdynelabs (75%)
I just got this charger, had high hopes for it. I tried to charge 2 5 cell NimH batteries and a 7.2V LiIo battery (using 3 of the ports) with 900mA charge current for each port. It wont let me do that, it errors out on multiple ports. It doesnt read the battery voltage correctly and ***ps up one port to 1.5A (over the set current limit). The only way for it to work is to charge one battery at a time now - then it behaves. No manual included either, so far thumbs down!
   vasy1 (56%)
Interesting. I was able to charge 4, 4 cell batteries at 3amp current with no issues.
