Hi guys, I just cant get this to work at all. the red light flashes continuously, i tried rebooting the device more than 10 time, reset to factory defaults, used another futaba radio, but the red light keeps on flashing. The heli was then paced securely on a steady surface as well. the servos do not move at all.

hi all. i just ordered a flymentor and i'm waiting for it to get to me. i have windows 7, what do i need to do to get it to work?
   nickj (63%)
Just copy the helibal software over to the PC. The driver should install normally and work when it senses the device. Make sure that the driver is using BELOW COM 10 which is very important. This is all documented in threads below or on some of the heli fora.

Hello. I have similar configuration like you: HK450, Flymentor and my Radio is a JR X8310. I have too many problem and i am finding solutions little by little. 1.- Swasplate doesnt works like espected on manual... i have discovered the position of servos for 3/120 swasplate is wrong, servo 1 and 2 are exchanged on manual and Helibal software. Exchange cable betwen them, and you can reach swasplate movement correct. 2.- Tail giro dont work correctly and seems to have "half travel". My JR radio must have some hidden mixes and gyro options than cannot be disabled in Heli mode. Finaly, i have configured radio on "acro mode (avion)" and use programed MIX1 to mix Throtle to Flaps, using AUX1 (flaps) as Pitch. In this mode all seems to be good. 3.- Finaly i have a unexpected vibration on main rotor that have make impossible to continue testing. Im finding from where are it. It has appeared without any crash and at firts tests they dont exists. Ah!, very important, prior voltaje downs from LIPO alert level, the Flymentor begins to have wrong responses. It seems low voltaje affects very much to this equipment. I have this Heli form 1 week and i only have reach to make 2 little jumps with it. If you are spanish (i think so) we can communicate by email. j.ubeda*veridian.es.

hey i woundering if i would use this when i upgrade to the 5 blade head? or will i need to get a flybar less thing? please healp
   TeeJayShelton (30%)
you will need a flybarless controller.. I have never tried it but there are those who have and no one i know of have had it serve this purpose well.... It works very very well on a fly bar style head
   Markus (53%)
the is 100% not a flybarless system!!!
   TeeJayShelton (30%)
you will be better served to get a flybarless controller... I have onlt read of one preson getting good results from this as a flybarless controller.... This is a great product for flybar a flybar heli. I have 2 of them and love them
   nickj (63%)
You'll probably find that at the lower head speeds you'll need with a 5 blade head the heli will be stable without any additional electronics. Remember to blance the blades, it's more critical than on a twin blade head. The flymentor should be able to handle this without too mch hassle.

Hi has anyone put this unit on the HK 450 v2 and got it to work? I need help in getting it to function properly. It seem to respond with the right servo movements when tillted as long as the motor isn't running. When running on a test stand it looses all control. When I go to idle 3 it spins out of control until the throttle is reduced. Please help me I dont have anyone locally to help me.
   TeeJayShelton (30%)
I have it working very well on a 450 gt....
if it seems to be working correctly with everything moving the right direction, including the swash correction but when you spin it up it tries to tip the heli you have either too much gain or vibration issues....
   Deadstick1955 (58%)
HI Tee Jay could you give me the heli bal settings you have for a starting point. I have everything set to the factory settings. I also have this problem with the Flymentor on my align 450 SE V2. I don't have a clue where to start.
   up&down (77%)
I don't see why it stops working on spinning up unless CCPM is not turned off on the TX. Does it do the same thing when the motor is disconnected? If it does not, check if vibration is causing a pro blem by taking the FM sensor block off the 450 and spinning it on a test stand. Your BEC may be unable to maintain 5V when the battery is on load. Try another battery/ESC.
   N4505 (62%)
I have the same problem and it's caused by too much vibration from the main and autorotation gears.
To confirm it, remove the blades, place the gyro on the bench, s***l up and watch the swashplate. If it works ok this way, then you have vibration issues. Place the gyro back on the heli and start removing parts until you find what causes the vibes. Could be the main gears (like mine), main shaft, motor, head etc.

Will this system work for a tri rotor or multi rotor aircraft.
Thanks,
Earl
   destef1 (32%)
Yes there is a person that has used it on a tri rotor system - see ***********rcgroups****/forums/showthread.php?t=959593&page=101 for details
   Markus (53%)
no !!!
   Bluefisherking (78%)
Why not? Surely a tricopter only looks like a 120 degree swashplate?
   nickj (63%)
I'd have thought that as long as your motors are at the same angular seperation then it ought to work. The sense outs ought to be able to drive an ESC for each motor. The system should balance the tricopter in exactly the same way as it does on a heli. You'll still have to power up each ESC individually as any movement is going to trigger an attempt at balancing by the unit so watch your fingers!!

I received a broken one, only keeps blinking the red light, does not works at all, no servo movement, nothing, I dont know if I buy another, afraid of receive another with problem.
   idid (56%)
just re-plug battery again. It should work.
This is common issue with this product.
My experience is that if this happens, instead of disconnect and reconnect the battery, it is better to disconnect 3-pin connector of Flymentor from receiver while battery is still conneted then re-connect the 3-pin plug. More successful initialtions.

   azzbean (50%)
make sure you turn off the helicopter mixing of the tx, the flymentor needs a staight ch signal input and it will mix the signals internaly for the servo output i hope this has helped

   chuache (65%)
Hi

You have to connect the power of your helicopter and radio.
Please take care of disconnect motor first. (this will avoid a possible accident)
I have 3 of these and all works perfect.
Helicopter can fly by their own
Bye
   azzbean (50%)
make sure you have the flymentor computer attached and turned on with tx connected and on before connecting it to your computer.
   up&down (77%)
Make sure it shows up as a com port within 10. I had to free up some unused virtual com ports (bluetooth, GPS...) on my XP for that. It works happily thereafter.

Hi my flymentor works just fine untill i switch to idleup then the tail starts to drift to the right from the higher rpm, but it dosent stop so i have to hold the stick halfway all the time in idleup. any one familier with the problem ore a solution?
   n3m1s1s (64%)
yes! what you need to do is set your trims to neutral in your TX,then set trim mechanically in rate mode by adjusting the servo links, once it hardly drifts at all (or drifts very slowly) switch to heading hold mode and you should be fine *)
   mattin (72%)
Aha okej! That makes perfect sense thanks alot for the fast reply and the good knowlage:D
   destef1 (32%)
Yes, try setting your gyro senstitivty to HH (all the way right) Otherwise just use the hobyking gyro as a seperate system, as the flymentor one is hard to setup.

2. plug the adapter in computer and install software.
3. go to control pannel and change the port to com1 to 5.
4. plug the wire into the kds unit. good luck

   destef1 (32%)
Go to device manager in windows - look for the KDS device in the devie manager, it will probebly be flagged as not working, you may need to update the driver manually or you may also need to select a differnt com port in the advanced settings when you clikc on it in device manager.
   gazza2009au (76%)
when u plug the flymentor into your USB port YOU MUST HAVE YOUR ESC PLUGED INTO THE RECEIVER AND YOUR FLIGHT PACK PLUGED INTO YOUR ESC for the software to work

i started my flymentor and the tail servo is going to one end by itself when i corrected with stick input does the same, after i trimmed it and the movment got slower but there is still movment by itself.so i gave it a try and the heli began to rotate on itself like ther was no headlock mode the light on the main unit show that all working fine but dont know what is happening at powering up its not holding up and i use spektrum reciever too can someone show me the way
   up&down (77%)
Tail drifting to one side on the ground is quite common in HH mode. Or else the gyro has to implement a dead zone bigger enough to handle TX offset. It just means the gryo believes there is a non-zero rudder input from the TX after initialization. It may be a non-issue once air born. A little trim should take care of that. It is more important to check that the tail gyro is setup in the correct direction. It should control the tail to counteract when you try to rotate the heli by hand. You may check that under rate mode if the drift is bothering you.

Hy all! I fit this unit on my Belt-Cp last week. Now I am trying to set it up. After some hours of tests I fix well the gyro in hedlock mode and the balanced mode works good too. I experienced problems with position mode becouse instead to hover around a fix point, hely goes in circles bigger and bigger. Does anibody know how to set the position section to obtain the correct response?
The second question is about the balance mode: If you bend the helicopter with hand in first 3-5 seconds the response is in opposite sense, but after 10 seconds the plate comes to 0 relative to helicopter body. In that case stabilisation fails and the hely goes faster and faster in one direction. Can this be fixed from settings or ...... this is the sistem limit?
   strike-down (62%)
1) In the helibal software, in the advanced tab, decrease the positional sensor gain slightly. 2) No thats how the stabilization system works. Its not like a HH gyro. You said balance mode works well, so nowt needs fixing in that respect.
   up&down (77%)
Hmm, it sounds like a flight mechanics issue. FM is applying extremely small corrections in position mode to counter drifting, say it tilts the swashplate a little bit forwards if the camera detects the heli is drifting backwards. If the forward tilt also results in a sidewards tilt, say as the two servos on the side are not travelling exactly the distance, we may end up in circles. You are not using a 45 degree flybar I supposed. BTW, I also notiiced that it is important to keep the swashplate level during initialization. The skids on some of my heli's do not really keep the heli level to start with. FM would have a hard time afterwards.

My tail gyro is waging, what i must correct to solve that problem? I have been playing with gyro sens and gyro gain but i can't set it correct...
   nickj (63%)
First go back to basics and set up the mechanical linkage. You want the servo arm as close to 90 degrees to the operating arm as possible, fine trim it at the transmitter using the subtrims. Now you should set the range using the software so the servo doesn't bind at either end of max travel. After this try working from default settings. Bring the gyro sense down slowly until the tail stops wagging. If all else fails disconnect the tail gyro control wire and use a seperate gyro.
   Ramesh (39%)
Tail wagging is related to toooo much gain, so reduce ur gain 5% at a time, till wagging stops, OR, if that does not solve ur problem then in all probablility, ur rudder servo is tooo slow, change it to a faster servo, preferably digital, about .1 sec speed or less.
   Starman97 (48%)
The manual is wrong for my FM, The Blue wire controls position gain and the Green wire controls Gyro gain. I've seen this on another FM as well. Also, why put a modify password on the PDF manual? I can't make any notes in it with Acrobat , BAD!! I can't even print it for use in the field!
   up&down (77%)
Starman, When I complained to KDS about the manual being locked, I got a new copy from them via email. On that copy, the wiring issue has also been corrected. I would like to upload that to HK but the file upload button is somehow greyed out. Send a mail to KDS tell them to update their web and/or send you a new copy.

Hi everyonde, I’m planning to buy the flymentor for my old T-Rex 450 XL HDE mCCPM I know the KDS flymentor is compatible with a 4servo 90 swash set up but how about the compatability with a 3Servo 90 swash plate setup
   ClayStation (46%)
It doesn't have a setting for 3 servo 90, the only 3 servo settings are for 120 and 140.
   pantelejev (74%)
with the software also included.100%! Regards
   nickj (63%)
Hey Ferdy I've got the ARK X-400 which is a clone of the mech mixed T-Rex, hate to say it but the clones better than the original. The flymentor manual does have set up for a few swash types, 3 servo 120 & 140, four servo 90 & the 90/45 types. I'm not convinced that the 4s 90 would work. The Alien Command system does work on mech mixed heads though. Have a look at ****heliguy**** for details. The standard or advanced version does work. My ARK has the bottom of the range unit which works OK.
   Ramesh (39%)

I am using this with the HK T6A, but I have a 7X coming, but reading the manual for that, it seems that they may not be compatable (funny, since they are both made by KDS) since I got mine to work using the T6A's programmable mixing. I used channel 6 as pitch, and mixed it with channel 3, throttle, full up and 0 down, to get something that would fly. Without that ability, I don't see how this is possibly going to work with any other transmitter. I like it otherwise, and it works great with the T6A.
Anyone care to comment on what transmitter they use, and how they set it up? Particularly, how do you get throttle/pitch mixing to work?
   hhrhhr (55%)
your T6A can work in HELI-90 mode, then you can use throttle and pitch curves on the channel 6 without mixes.
This customer was awarded a credit for their answer.
   ClayStation (46%)
Good idea, but all it let me do was have throttle curves, and idleup, again. It doesnt mix channel 6 that way, but I have to use channel 6 for pitch, too bad I can't get the pitch mix to work, but pitch requires it's own channel for the flymentor, I have to use channel 6. Would have been nice to free a channel for the 3D control, but there is little to gain from that, anyway. Disable the flymentor, would be about all that would be able to do.

Is it a must to have 500 Flybarless rotor head upgrade assembly, for buying the Flymentor 3D helicopter stabilisation System?

Hi Kostas,
NO, you dont need FBL setup to use flymentor 3D. As the name says it all, it's just a stabilisation system.
Hope this help

I figured out how to remove my flybar, and match the way the flybarless is setup, and it was not pretty at all. But then, I have mine on an EP100, and the little bugger is "twitchy", anyway. You powered up the main control unit using a battery to start with and NOT from the motor controller ESC?? Did windows find any new devices? Check the devices list for anything new with a yellow warning triangle, install the driver from there with the USB device using com port 10 or less.

You don't say what OS you are using. With WinXP I didn't have any problem. It won't work with Windows7 64bit unless you make modifications to the computer. I emailed KDS about this and they said they had a setup card that you don't need to use the computer. I have one on order.
   flyer22 (72%)
I received the KDS setup card. It works great and you don't need a computer to use it so I use it in the field. It is powered buy the flymentor3D.

   ClayStation (46%)
Whahh, support requires money, and personally, I prefer Chinese cheap, to Chinese instructions. If you want support, go buy something expensive, that offers support paid for my the dramatic cost increase. Besides, if their support is like their instruction manuals (the Chinese in general: "chinglish"), it won't be very usefull, anyway. You are probably better off, here, getting support from other users who at least speak the same language as you.
   nickj (63%)
Support costs money which increases costs. KDS don't do support which is a shame even a good FAQ would be a help but they do supply reasonable and cheap parts.
   Ramesh (39%)

There are topics on helifr eak dot com and rc groups dot com if you want help to set it up search flymentor on those forums. Please understand that cheap prices don't come with premium support. If you want support buy well known brands.... it's like linux vs. windows.
   nickj (63%)
Did you set up the mechanical links first? Servos should be connected to the reciever and powered up and the arms set as close to 90 degrees as posible, use the sub trim to fine adjust. Then set the swash plate to level by adjusting the rod lengths as required for your heli. Now you can power up the flymentor from a battery NOT the ESC and connect to the PC. The link HAS to use com 10 or less to work. Now tell it the swash servo type. Now you can plug in the servos and get to work. Set up the servo ranges and throws through the software DON'T change anything on the tx. You should be able to balance out swash interactions mainly by adjustment in the software. See Helifreak forums and Finless bobs tutorials there for help on general principles. This system wil only work well if the basic mechanical set up is correct first.

First set up your helicopter prior to setting the flymentor. Install the flymentor and adjust each setting one at a time until it coincides with you (without flymentor setup) Following that, it is simply adjust it to your flying style.

Does the system require digital servos to operate?
   GEORGE (46%)
There is a statement in the manual where they refer to a fm radio so i would say no you can use none digital servos
   strike-down (62%)
You can use analogue servos, but I found the HXT900s to have an incredibly "notchy" response with the flymentor. Tried with the DS480, and it was really smooth. So you can use analogue, but I wouldnt recommend it.

It is apparently better on digitals but will drive analogues OK. The movement on analogues can be a bit notchy

I have Windows Vista Home Premius. When I try to install the drivers a notice says that the INF archives does not support this method of installation. Does anyone knows what do I have to do in order to install the drivers?
   Malfamartin (71%)
Dear friend Anastasios! KDS is aware of the problem and can not do anything today. It only works for Windows XP for now, but they say that they are working with a setupcard instead. Since most people in China have XP, they did not realice the problem. Try to borrow a laptop with XP from a friend. That is what I did.
   Starman97 (48%)
The driver for Vista worked on my netbook running Windows7 Premium. I had to hard set to COM1 in the control panel.
Power up the Flymentor before connecting it to the PC.
   Malfamartin (71%)
A setup card will be available late December I am told by KDS. Hopefully HK will have it then too. It should be much better than a laptop or PC.
   Ruben (56%)
there are two types of vista 32 and 64 bit is very posible that in a 64bit vista doesn't work
   nickj (63%)
You probably can get this to run on 7 pro, seems OK to me so far. Premium is a cut down version so lacks a few useful components. I'd first try finding the device in device manager (look for the yellow triangle) and select it and right click to get to properties. Select install driver from there. It will ask where the files are. This often works better than the windows auto install. Otherwise a long way round would be to install a copy of XP onto something like Suns virtualbox.

I want to use my Futaba 401 Gyro instead of the Flymentor Gyro. Where could I connect the 401 Gyro? I suppose
that I must let the Flymentor Gyro at home.
   zillom (61%)
No, you can use 401.
Simply connect to channel 4 and 5.
And flymentor take the two others axes.
   pantelejev (74%)
The receiver output (Rudder) and (Gear), the individual cable connector, from the GY401. On Flymentor only Servo 1-3 or 1-2 or 1-4 (Swashplate)Pantelejev
   idid (56%)
The sensor of Flymentor isessentially a 3-axis gyro. If you decide to use your 401 it means you don't want to use yaw gyro of Flymentor. Just don't connect the grey connector of Flymentor to your receiver's channel 4. You have to use 401 and Flymentor's gro-looking sensors at the same time.
   nickj (63%)
You've got it, if you use your own gyro then that comes off of the reciever as normal. I think you still need the flymentor gyro to handle the other 2 rotation axis compensation.
   Ramesh (39%)
If u want to use 401, then connect it directly to the reciever rudder channel, and use flymentor for aileron and elevator.
   up&down (77%)
I think we should also turn the sensitivity of tail gyro to 0 on FM via PC. Just in case the tail is sharing the same MCU with the other axes, it would save some processing power.

Is this system stable, no drift in x,y,z axis at 100 feet above ground? I want to use it to hold a 60 size heli while i aim the camera through a video link so ill need to take my eyes off the heli and cannot have it drift while i aim and focus the camera.
   marc85 (52%)
No, that won't work. It needs the camera to hold the position (which works really great for me). But the camera only works in heights of a few meters above ground.
When you fly 100ft above ground, the FM will only hold the heli in horizontal position, but it will still drift away because of the wind.

Hallo Marc,
Gru Marc

Something wrong with the review system for this unit. After I placed the review it saved the review under different product.

Anyway, I just want to warn potential buyers to think twice before purchasing this unit. From what I have gathered so far from different user feedbacks.. there are quite a few negative experiences. Overall it is a very ***r quality product that could potentially crash your helicopter or worst case injure someone. KDS doesn't seem to reply emails either. Over $100 for this unit? I wouldn't spend more than $40 on this.

po au! You have wasted 7 minutes of my life by showing this video without sence. Please do not take up cyber space with such nonsense. Please write what you want to say instead. People might think you try to advice them. How can you warn people, when having no pedagogic skills

yo tengo problema con el flymentor, en alabeo funciona correctamente pero en cabeceo no va bien alguien sabe como solucionarlo o esta mal?

I also I have problems, warping is fine, but pitching is not going well. anyone can help me?
   nickj (63%)
Depends who you read, some rate it some don't. Rule of thumb is that if you heli is set up badly then it'll fly like a broken brick. All of these devices (including the system flymentor was cloned from)are extremely sensitive to set up, if that isn't right whatever any stabilisation system does isn't going to work properly.

any idea what types of tail servo suits this best??thanks
   Starman97 (48%)
I'm going to use the DS480 on my HK450.
It's pretty much the ideal tailservo for the 450-class heli, in digital. Others have reported good results with DS470's as the cyclic servos.
   nickj (63%)
I've read that digital servos all round are best, analogues can bu used but the movement tends to be a bit notchy. Tails are usually best with digital, LOL I know digital are best but am still using analogues myself.

I just got this unit. Installed driver, had the main unit and adapter connected to PC. Run the helipal program but it says no device can be detected. The led on both sides are on. What should I do? is it a faulty unit?
   dcptr (55%)
Same goes with me! Ive tried everything, tried on xp and vista, uninstalling the driver, reinstalling... Need to get this going asap!

What is your helibal version? I found than only 2.11 works with new units. 2.01 from KDS site doesn't.
   Romushock (81%)
When connect the device to your PC, make sure the device is assigned to COM1 - COM3 port, otherwise, the computer may not "see" the device.

I am install driver on Windows7 quite easy. Read from somewhere then follows it successful:
-1st power unit w/ a Rx battery (not take power from ESC BEC or UBEC and flight battery) then plug cable w/ PC and unit.On windows differ from Win7 or vista, it will ask for where driver is but in win7, it just tell you driver not installing. Dont panic , just go to device manager, look for device helibal w/ yellow mark and update the driver for it. This time win7 will ask you to pick where yr driver is locate and every thing will go fine after that.
Later, you can power up unit w/ ESC output w/o any problem.
- Follow the user manual step by step and all thing will be OK. Just remember to save config file. After a various time of setup. this unit may become overmemory and may have strange behavious. just click to "Reset to factory setting" and save to unit, then load saved config from PC and save it to unit. The controller will work fine again. This notice is printed in user manual, but you may be by pass it.
-My install is with Rx6100E and DX7 and everything works fine so far.
- Google all the web but just see some bad mouth guys in helifreak try to throw stones on it - never find any good exchage experience of how to make it installing easier. KDS should be more active on this
   nickj (63%)
The PC should detect the device, if it isn't make sure the com port used is a number less than 10.

I have thundertiger 30, does anyone know if this kit will work fine on my heli?
   peacekeeper1au (56%)
Hi,
Look on Utube and you will see a Raptor 30 using this KDS. I have purchased one for mine as well.
   nickj (63%)
I'd try it out on a beater first, if you don't have one then it's a good excuse to get a spare 450/500. The tiger would make a big expensive hole if you get it wrong! Having said that it should work
   Ramesh (39%)
it will work on any heli
